Did Simon Lazonby? He was lucky to survive that Priness Grace comment the first year he went to Monaco.
What happened there? I forget
It might be that she looks like her cat died, or looks as if she's being held hostage

My take on Schiff and Bernie is this.
Schiff has not got a great deal of experience, therefore she gets flak. Because she is black she gets far more attention than her many, many, many inexperienced white counterparts that came before her.
Bernie is experienced, therefore she gets praised.
So now that we've shown it wasn't gender, it must have been the other prejudice. Do you not hear how ridiculous that sounds? You're perhaps exposing your own prejudice if the main reason you can think of that people criticise Schiff more than others is effectively that "they're probably closet racists".Schiff has not got a great deal of experience, therefore she gets flak. It's pretty simple, she wasn't very good at what she was employed to do. Crofty gets far more flak and he's a white male, Herbert got a fair bit of stick too. Although maybe that's ageism...

Bernie gets praised because her experience is relevant to the job and she can string an interesting, coherent, relevant sentence together. Naomi has neither experience nor insight, and generally says nothing that adds to the conversation. She has said herself that she was surprised to be taken on as a pundit.
I can't think which "many, many, many inexperienced white counterparts" you're referring to either. Everyone that I recall being employed as a regular TV pundit has been an ex-F1 employee, either as a race/test driver or team member in some capacity. Any examples?
IIRC he had no F1 knowledge but was very very good at his job.

Jake was my favourite (anchorman?) in all my time watching F1 (since mid 90s), he wasn't knowledgeable but didn't pretend to be and was keen to learn. I think all F1 fans felt like that at some point so found him very relatable. As long as there is genuine enthusiasm for the sport the rest can be taught.
For me too. The first skill that any presenter should have is in presenting. Then they should go for experience. I get the distinct impression some of those put in front of the camera have had no training. Overtalking, changes of direction, poor following of what's going on - we could all do that.Edited by Derek Smith on Tuesday 30th May 07:41

Who was that Murray bloke who used to speak a little bit about F1 races? I'm quite sure he never worked for an F1 team.
His dad was a works motorbike racer and he had a go himself racing against the likes of surtees. He had a proper job in advertising working on accounts for esso amongsts others, he kept that job alongside his commentary until in his mid 50's.
Murray grew up in a racing family and had a genuine passion for the sport and its fans and competitors.
Croft came from shouting about darts....

And I'm quite sure he was a commentator, not a pundit (which requires direct experience in the event they're being paid to discuss).Edited by gt_12345 on Wednesday 31st May 07:06

A certain Danica Patrick aka probably the most accomplished race car driver of this era (leaving aside drag) got a bit blasted for her insights when it was obvious to many of us you'd need double spacing to fit what she knows of F1 on a postage stamp.Schiff has not got a great deal of experience, therefore she gets flak. My take on you is that you're looking to find where racism can be an explanation for something and as such you will see it everywhere.
And it will seem to you legitimate. It's fine to have a bias or a leaning, it's what makes us characters, but sometimes you need to be self aware and try to steel man the arguement if you want to be rounded.

Bernie and coherent shouldn't exist in the same sentence. Its not her Irish accent, she's just a rampant mumbler, which is a shame because I'm sure it's quite interesting. It's pretty simple, she wasn't very good at what she was employed to do. Thank you for your insight into me. You spelt argument incorrectly.
I was fascinated on the Monaco coverage with Schiff's insight's into F1 Contract Negotiation?????
How many of those has she been involved with.... and that's not Liberty F1 TV pundit negotiation which is probably the only contract she's seen with the words F1 written in it, and that was only in the addendum of the contract where it said 'Little to no knowledge of F1 is required for this role'!!

Do you believe what she said on the subject to be incorrect? How many of those has she been involved with.... and that's not Liberty F1 TV pundit negotiation which is probably the only contract she's seen with the words F1 written in it, and that was only in the addendum of the contract where it said 'Little to no knowledge of F1 is required for this role'!!
As don't have Sky I only get the YT footage on their channel from what I've seen she is excellent in my opinion, really well spoken, very well dressed and has an elegance/poise about her that I really like in a TV presenter.
I don't care that she isn't an ex F1 driver, they have plenty of them.

The only person who has reason to be aerated over Schiff's presence on SKY's F1 output is Simon Lazenby.
She is just right for his role. They are training her up, live on TV.
Yup. Can't wait for that bomb to drop. She is just right for his role. They are training her up, live on TV.

Simon is quite irritating, Not 'Channel 4' irritating, but certainly 'Get off the screen' irritating.
