For anyone thinking of trying some inexpensive motorsport this motorsport UK initiative might be of interest.

Covers autotests, autosolos, targa rallies and the like.
It was only officially launched a short while ago although events suitable for those wanting to dip a toe into some relatively inexpensive motorsport have been run for decades. Its a step in the right direct and in my experience working to point people in the right direct, not just to the events themselves but to clubs and individuals willing to help with a little advice and guidance.
Its not that easy to get some pointers on what, where, and when, the days of thriving motor club weekly or monthly noggin and nattering for newbies to gather up the pearls of wisdom from the club elders are on the whole gone.

These guys do regular events at Curborough, hopefully get to their one later in the year.
I believe there is a winter series at Donington Park too, not sure who runs it though.
