LH was never the greatest qualifier. Bottas and Rosberg frequently ran him close/beat him. Racecraft, on the other hand, he excels.
...he does have more pole's than anyone else, ever though...

yes My money would still be on a comfortable win for Verstappen.
I agree with you. His overtaking skills will be tested. But, I believe that he can do it.

Perez needs to just take off and run today. No reason he shouldn’t have a 10-20 second lead. And then even if Max makes it back to 2nd without incident it is going to make it very uncomfortable for RB to ask him to give up a massive comfortable lead and deserved win or engineer it in some way.

If Perez doesn't win today it will be embarrassing, really.

First lap will be…… spicy. Alonso and Russel will put Perez under huge pressure and something will happen.

Max will get through easily enough. It will be hailed as a great drive etc but the reality will be he is given space and will be top ten by lap two. People will let him through because there appears to be this mindset that only certain drivers can compete for the championship, everyone else knows their place and is fighting for points.

What's the odds on Max getting a podium?
In all honesty I'd say a maximum of 5th place unless he gets lucky with a safety car or two.

With MV's 'get out my way or we crash' approach to overtaking (© Senna, 1988) I can't see anyone trying to keep him behind.

I'll bet you a pint that he'll do better than that. Unless he falls off.

As you're obviously new here, you can find the start times in the first post in this thread, as always.

Of all the circuits you don’t want to be stuck at the back into the first corner, this must be up there. He may be lucky to make it round the first lap.

I think there'll be more than one or two safety cars.

I wonder if the sensible thing for the out-of-position drivers, is to reverse the ‘fastest’ strategy, starting on the hards and hoping to maximise the window for a safety car pit stop?

The strategy options above, don’t take account of possible SC or VSC, which are very likely at this circuit.
