First lap will be…… spicy. Alonso and Russel will put Perez under huge pressure and something will happen.

Max will get through easily enough. It will be hailed as a great drive etc but the reality will be he is given space and will be top ten by lap two. People will let him through because there appears to be this mindset that only certain drivers can compete for the championship, everyone else knows their place and is fighting for points.
Absolutely, all this 'fight from the back' is BS. Cars just can't wait to get out of the way. He'll basically get a load of free passes up to the front runners in no time. I suspect catching Perez might be difficult but there's no real need to, P2 will be fine.

I’ve got shot down on here many a time when I criticise drivers for jumping out the way. “Ah well they’re in a different race” etc excuses. My mindset is - keep everyone behind.

I remember being devastated by Gilles’ death and shocked by Pironi’s accident.

I’ve also always felt that the four years between Prost and Senna contributed to very different driving attitudes between them.

Senna thought he had some divine right to win. Prost was a lot more pragmatic.

Agreed but it would be the same for Lewis when in the same position back in the day, points mean so much that the other teams don't want to get involved in a race that isn't theirs and you can understand that, however AM/Mercedes/Ferrari have 6 cars between them that will race Max so we will at least see just how far ahead RB are when he comes up behind them.

I'm younger

I got into F1 in 1987 so for me it was Ratzenberger (oh no, sad) and Senna (OMFG!!!) in 1994

Yes, we all downplayed Ratzenberger's death on the Saturday. But Sunday changed F1.

I've read over on the covid thread that some of them there have some kind of code so they cannot see posts from selected people they don't agree with. Not sure if it's true though.

I don't recall that we did, I just don't think we had time to process it before the events of the Sunday.

Good news, Max has had to change his gear box.. back to the one that had the issues with downshifting in Bahrain.. no penalties.. and no need to take one from Checo/AT/ catering van yet.

Edit rear suspension too, surprised at that.. MGUK may have been worth changing too if they are that concerned.

That's fair.

Point was that, either way, Senna's death hit harder.

I am not in any way denigrating or downplaying Ratzenberger's death

I remember hearing about Roland's death on the radio. I couldn't process it, I didn't think it was possible anymore to die in an F1 car. Then we had Senna the next day and Wendlinger's accident at Monaco two weeks later. Suddenly everything felt very, very uncertain.
