I learnt on Sunday, it’s actually here, a place I’d never heard of, assuming you mean the Lotus Cortina.

As others have said , it’s one amazing car collection. Shame it’s never been open to public viewing as far as I’m aware.
He’s such a fascinating character and I’d love to read a warts and all story of his life.
Probably not going to happen….

I’m surprised he didn’t get Derek Hood to sell them.

I like his thinking, realise the lot and see what happens to them, before he goes . He will probably like to have some say in who has what as well.

I wasn't particularly impressed with that book.

Apparantly this is the one to read if you can find it:

From what I understand the Lotus Cortina was never used in the robbery, sold by JD Classics so no doubt they embellished the story somewhat when selling it for £100k.

…but you say not many people do? Sounded like you knew what you were talking about?

…and I’m not sure he’s the crying type!

BE has always had an idea what to do. He probably empoyed some very trusted people to look after his cars a long time ago. Being as he is approx 105 years old, they are probably not very young either. At least retirement age.
Rather that have to get some new people he doesnt really know or trust,as that takes time, its a better idea to sell them on rather than let the missus sell them in exchange and mart or a mumsnet forum.

It will be fasciating to see how much these make. How do you value, for example, something like the Brabham fan car?
We wont get to know. They're being sold by private treaty and not via an auction. The sales prices will remain a secret unfortunately.

Will that volume flood a weak market, and struggle to attract firm offers? Answer comes Christmas next year.

Or is it? ..... There's a bit of discussion on this in the Jonny Smith Late Brake Show thread here already.

The Train Robbery link was real insofar as he commissioned one of the robbers who'd learned Silversmithing inside, to design and make the WDC trophy that's still used today.
Not the WDC trophy, the Race Promoters' Trophy, handed out to the best Formula 1 race promoter each year at the FIA Prize Giving Gala
