Bernie's car collection for sale

It's quite painful to hear him say he doesn't want or need to sell his cars, he just wants to make sure it's done properly and they're not flogged off as generic assets 'later on'. He clearly hasn't got the time to break apart and sell everything he owns with such care, but the cars are special to him so they're getting dealt with properly. Entirely unironically, his last grand trade will be in line with his first - dealing cars.
I've typed the above as if the guy's about to pop his clogs. Stupid really, he's plainly an alien species and will likely live another 300 years before returning to hibernation. He's only just stopped pro-creating... probably

He’s getting frail, it was a little sad to see him annoyed he couldn’t remember his first business partners name.
I feel we’ve got just about all we ever will from him, he still likes to be secretive and perhaps has many reasons to be so, there can’t be many that age so well known to be still commuting illegal acts and getting caught regularly!
The Hamilton story about his wages with Mercedes-he made that sound like that was a post 2012 deal? Bernie was in charge until 2017 so presumably Lewis was ready to walk at some point during his championship years.

Indeed. A fact often forgotten. By the time he arrived in motor sport, not even F1, he was a multi-millionaire resulting mainly from property deals in the SE of London.
The Train Robbery link was real insofar as he commissioned one of the robbers who'd learned Silversmithing inside, to design and make the WDC trophy that's still used today.

I forget his name but was an aspiring racer who did the job to fund his racing. Asked Bernie for help when he got out and the trophy gig was what he got.
That’s a rather amusing photo, mostly because the famous Lewis Hamilton quote was about the big gold British GP Cup and not the championship trophy, after being presented with a plastic sponsored trophy for winning the race. "I was looking for the gold trophy but they did not have it. They don't make trophies like that anymore!"

That’s one hell of a car collection he’s got there though, hope they all find good homes and like that he’s choosing to sell them off now, rather than in an estate sale a decade or more into the future.

The fan car is an interesting one. Would it actually be able to race in Historic F1? Is it illegal? And as there is only one, would you want to? Has Gordon got enough spare cash to buy it?
Some of the other cars are just unbelievable though. The Auto Union and the Mercedes pre-war cars are hardly mentioned in most of the articles I have seen on this and they are easily ten figure cars, the whole lot must be worth over 100 million in the current market.
Mind you, the fire insurance bill for that hanger must have been mind boggling over the years.
The fan car was never declared illegal at the time. The Mercedes and Auto-Union I think came from Crosthwaite & Gardiner, so still expensive but not record-breaking prices. Some of the other cars are just unbelievable though. Yes the fan car was withdrawn voluntarily by Brabham before it was formally protested. Stewards never had to rule on it’s legality. One of the many “decisions” made with handshakes at the time.

Bernie of course, had eyes on the prize and keeping the unity between teams was more important than winning the championship.
(I'm sure a lot of posters know this story but it's still worth repeating!).

But I expect there will be a car by car video, if only to drum up anticipation. I hope so at least.

I hope so.I love all those Brabhams. Basically not one bad looking one.
They were all lookers! It's funny to cycle back through the history of F1 cars. They all looked modern and exciting at the time, but looking back... Some were timeless and others look like some sort of ugly science experiment prototype

I think in time we might accept that the current cars were pretty awful

The 2022 mercedes looked like it had melted

The worst era IMHO was around 2010 to
2014 when the cars had those daft stepped noses and those even worse bulbous ones.

The dildo era. Of all the unexpected responses to new regs - the dildo response is surely the most regrettable

This sport has been such a comedy for the last 20 years

My favorite car is the Caterham. When they announced they were entering F1, I recoiled. WTF was all that about? Bizarre!
