The Cygnet- AM's view. Interesting.

It's not necessarily the concept per se, it's the fact that it's a pure badge engineering exercise.
What, in the same way the DB7 was essentially a re-badged XJS with some different sheet metal?...So at least there was a change in the mechanics and dynamics of driving the thing.
It's just boll0x at the end of the day. Want a city car? Just go to your local friendly Toyota dealer and buy an IQ, simples! Anybody justifing this so called AM brings their
their sanity into question. This car just proves some people have no respect for money or their vanity has no bounds.

Can you buy a luxury iQ from Toyota?their sanity into question. This car just proves some people have no respect for money or their vanity has no bounds.
So if you want a luxury city car, where do you go for one?
have any of the people saying its a waste of money actually sat in one, and had a good look at the interior? I haven't, but I'd imagine for an extra £20k, the interior will be a pretty nice place to be.
I also don't see the problem. These will probably hold their values pretty well (almost certainly better than, say, a £40k 3-series). Its also worth, for some people, spending money to sit somewhere nice. I spent in the region of 10k on a new kitchen. Its functionaly is broadly the same as the old one, and I still live in my terrace house next door to another terrace house which hasn't had a new kitchen put in - so essentially that 10k is just spent making somewhere I spend my time, a nicer place to spend my time.
If I earned 6 figures and wanted somewhere to sit to while away my time in traffic jams, and park in the city, would I buy one? dunno, but it'd certainly get a look in

Now, I'm no AM or Jag expert, but I seem to remember that the Jag came with an auto, and the AM was available with a manual box. Anyone care to confirm?

There where lots of changes, I was being a bit harsh really But the DB7 is I thing a surprising amount Jaguar....So at least there was a change in the mechanics and dynamics of driving the thing.
As for manuals.
Yes, early pre HE V12's had a 4 speed manual option. Lister variants could also be had with a 5 speed manual (Tremac I think???).
You are correct that latter V12's where all auto's though. Either GMTH350 3 speed or for the 6.0 litre ones ZF electronic controlled 4 speed.
The 6 cylinder variants, AJ6 3.6 and 4.0 and the latter AJ16 4.0 could all be had with 5 speed manuals, although rare. Most where auto's, although I forget which box it was, it was different to the V12's.
The AJ16 is essentially the same motor found in the DB7, although 3.2 litre displacement instead of 4.0 and it had an Eaton Roots supercharger (M90 I think).
AM may have done some stuff with the heads too.

The Cygnet is a much nicer place to be, it really is. their sanity into question. This car just proves some people have no respect for money or their vanity has no bounds.
Look at it like this, if you are a multi millionaire living in Chelsea £20k is not a lot money, it is not a matter of vanity, it is a matter of perspective. £4 for a pint of lager is not much to me but for a lot of the globe it would be a huge extravagance. The simple point is that it caters to a market who want something a bit swankier and can afford it. So why is it 'bks' to give them what they want?

You're quite right, Aston should produce what they think will sell. But what is "bks" is the fact that there is a demand in the first place. It's completely alien to me, but then I don't live in La La Land with more money than sense.

I can't argue with you, 20k ain't much to some.
