I think it was GCSE physics - certainly very early in A-level it was discussed that acceleration could mean siting at 100mph but going in a circle (note how you are 'thrown out' in a car - the car is still going the same speed, but in a different direction because it has been accelerated in a different plane - the car seat stopping you carrying on in a straight line is this acceleration.) This is going to be similar to the presumable parabola you are likely to describe as you jump out of a plane doing 100mph vertically and end up doing 100mph horizontally.
