Hello,
I have a new insurance policy for a recently bought car which requires proof of no-claims discount. I emailed them a copy of my insurance certificate which stated the level of NCD I have but was told that this was insufficient proof and that I needed to send them either a copy of a renewal document or a written statement from my present insurer.

My present insurer responded to my request for proof of my NCD by stating that as both my policies with them are still live (I haven't sold the replaced car yet) they cannot provide me with such a letter.

I thought that "insurance companies exchange information to prevent fraud" - why do I need to prove the NCD level to which I am entitled?

Also why can't I cancel the policy for the car I am waiting to sell if I SORN it in the garage at home?

GRRRRR!

If you have not cancelled either of the other policies then you are probably not entitled to claim the NCD from either because it is still 'in use'.

You can cancel the insurance policy if you SORN the car and keep it off the road.

So you're running three policies at the moment, and only have two sets of NCD.

If it's put like this, I think you can see why the insurer is acting in the way they are.
