The latest Hubnut Q&A video sent me off to look for this, Chris Goffey's Top Gear review of the original early 90's Proton. It has a buzzer warning if you open the door with the key in the ignition. Chris suggests finding the fuse for the buzzer and throwing it in a canal

Also, for 'new' press fleet cars (he's driving the saloon and the hatch) there's a bit of trim missing on the grille of one of them, the steering wheel isn't straight when he's driving on a straight road, and there are water leak issues in the boot of the saloon. The basic model came with a single manual door mirror on the driver's side, in 1991 (that's manual as in wind down the window and push the mirror glass with your finger, not with a little joystick inside the door to twist it around). The top 1.5 was only £9,990 though.
I'm saying 1991 as if it was recent, it's nearly 30 years. Jeeeez!
