Why?

Why do I see this so much?
Why does a man feel compelled to sell the car hes saved up for years for when a baby is due?

My assumption is that these are weak males.

(Just to clear this up, this bit ^^^ is a joke...)

Some cars really aren't practical for a baby seat, pram and all the other crap needed.

I have a 3 year old and 1 of our cars is a 3 door hatch. Trust me, its not easy!

I imagine the person crying while their baby holds a gun to their head and makes them sell their car... biggrin

Priorities change. Having wedge tied up in metal when there is suddenly something more important in your life can seem foolish. But they'll probably regret the decision and within 12 months be looking for a stupid estate - Audi RS6, or Merc C32 or something...

Fwiw I gave up bikes completely voluntarily when we had our first. My wife was concerned that I would resent it and tried to talk me into keeping at least one of them, but not a bit of it - I've replaced the bikes with a (slightly) more practical classic car instead.

Indeed - but 99% of the sales i see, theres a generic people-shifer on the same driveway.

And you might not want puke on your P&J, or have the money for everything you need plus the car.

Can't afford to run it, tax, insure and pay the loan on it? So get rid to free up cash for nappies.

All of the above plus, depending on situation of course your a wage down, or at least seriously reduced while their off on maternity leave. I'm lucky having my own car and a company car and my wife has a Eco mobile for the everyday stuff.

If your only car is an MX5 or 3 door golf gti for example it suddenly becomes completely impractical.

Yep. My 180mph motorbike certainly doesn't get out much since his nibs arrived.

Car is a complete shed on the verge of expiring completely; must give plausible excuse for selling the bloody thing.

It was my wife's idea to change her car not long after our daughter came along.

She traded in her Passat for a V8 Jag.

Ho-hum.
