DIY Air con compressor swap?

If the compressor had seized though would the big pulley with the ancillary belt going round it still be rotating, it doesn't suddenly lock solid when you turn on the AC - it seems to spin freely all the time?

Update.

So, it turns out that swapping over a compressor is a doddle. Done in a couple of hours.

Sourced a compressor from a broken car on ebay for £100, bit of a gamble but just had it regassed and it's working lovely now.

Main dealer would have charged iro £800 to sort this out, all done for £180, just hope it lasts!

Can thoroughly recommend that mobile aircon chap based in Leeds called cooldrive, professional, polite and just a nice chap to deal with. Marvellous!
