This one is for the nerds - haters need not apply. Inspired by the concurrent thread (my dad had one of those) does anyone else have ingrained in their memory the reg numbers of their parents car? I remember most and have happy memories of the excitement associated with each "new" car that came into our family although in hindsight all were fairly mundane:

LFT 430X - mothers metro, blue and a rust bucket but seemed like it was out of Tomorrow's World (anyone under 35 need not apply)
E82 CCN - Fiesta Popular (not even Popular Plus), white and seemed amazing after the Metro
E900 DCU - old man's Orion 1.6d L, Burgandy and slow as hell. First new car for us.
J658 JPV - rover 216 BRG - 16v engine seamed very spritely, 2nd gear went after 40k
G852 RVK - Subaru estate GL - had shifatable low ratio, was amazing on a road car

I could go on. Would like to hear if others have similar memories which inspired their car interests....
Are you a Geordie by any chance?

RED 405M. Horrible green Fiat 128
KUN 9490 and KUN955P. White and green Suntor Marina campers supplied from the factory in Devon hence the registrations.
XJR384T the Orange Horizon GLS with acres of brown velour a digital clock
And internally adjustable mirrors was science fiction to 8 year old me in 1979.
There were a few others - all Volvos.

My Dad got a personalised plate years ago. A birthday gift from my mum. Now he's gone I have it on my cars - a Land Rover at the moment. All things being equal it'll be put on a Discovery Sport soon. I like to think he would have approved.

My parents didn't have reg numbers, just National Insurance numbers, I believe.

Not far off - Hexham. Was it the new car ref on the Orion that gave it away (I think DCU was County Durham where the dealer who was a mate was)? Am sure wiki has shed loads on this but we're harking back to when the DVLA has multiple offices rather than just Swansea - my inner geek nearly stops there but I know COO was Colchester and had many an Essex reg'd fast ford on this nomenclature

EWU 360H gold cortina 1600E
UYG 99L. green Saab 99L, he kept that about 25 years.

Funny how you can remember a reg number from fifty years ago, but not a current one.

I can only remember one of my dads cars registration number H893 LOG, which belonged to a Maestro. Unfortunately it was the one that came with the electronic dash. My dad bought it when it was around a year old to replace a mk1 Micra.

My dad bought a private plate and put it on a new R reg rover he bought - A20 EVM.

He then replaced that with a C220 Sport S reg which cost £32k at the time - S95 EGD. The last time I saw it was in Greenock a couple of years ago.

He also had V26 CLK on his CLK but forgot to renew the retention when he bought a new car and I believe he no longer has the rights to it as a result.

Just a couple as they didn't change cars that regularly:

P228PGO - Volvo 850 2.5 20v estate. Bought near new in 1998 and sold with the gearbox starting to misbehave in 2004 ~125k miles later. Dark blue (small) 5 spoke alloys, no spoiler and cream leather. Loved the car, ferried caked in mud from many football games sat in the boot. Saw it a year or so after sale in Sidcup (SE London) so stayed local? Would love to see if it's still around

R482VWC - ford Mondeo 2.0 petrol GLX estate in silver. Worst ever auto box that shat itself at 60k miles after I started thrashing it around the (private) drive from 15....owned from new and sold in 2004 with ~62k miles. As it was my
Mums car there wasn't really a straight panel on it...also wonder if it's still alive?

E710HTP Izuzu Trooper is the only one I can remember before they put private plates on their cars. Bought new and I remember being there when they chose it. Since they got private plates I don't have to remember them. smile
