And then you get to the price rofl
UK prices are already ridiclous, Dutch prices even more so:

G500 167K or £121K
G63 220K or £159K
G65 383K or £277K
G350 156K or £113K

All thanks to emissions, a Range Rover 3.0 TDV6 HSE costs EUR.120K over here.

Another odd thing; the 350 diesel weighs more than the G65 ??

Its a big 'yes' from me, Ive always had a kink for the G Wagon

In my fantasy garage though Im undecided:
- the AMG "just because" even though it looks awful for family road trips
- or a diesel with clear side windows on sensible rubber for proper off roading and dog transport

Hell - I'll have both!

Cheers

I like these very much, the last of the proper off-roaders remaining on sale in the UK even if the price means they will never leave the tarmac of Mayfair. Electronics and independent suspension is all very well but there is no match for proper live axles and locking differentials off road.
Don't forget the Jeep Wrangler - it's very capable off-road and not bad on the road either. Damn sight cheaper as well!

The G does have presence and if money was no object I'd have one just for the hell of it.

The reason you are not understanding this car is the same reason you might not understand a woman spending £10k on a handbag... It's a fashion statement.

Sure maybe the bag is made of real duck feather leather and maybe the G wagen is the best thing ever off-road, but ultimately for most buyers these factors are not very relevant to their actual usage of the product. It's simply a very fashionable item that they want to have to show off. Which is as good a reason as any to spend your money on an unnecessary luxury product I suppose! But still, that's the reason why the wagen is more popular than ever. The ridiculous price tag probably helps.

Near me there are quite a few about, normally a 20year old driving it so guess a footballer. Guess running one you need wages of a footballer! They do shift, there is a black one with Brabus wheels on that often gets a boot through town and does sound good!
But like as said its a fashion thing, as they arent cheap, never realised they were twice the price of a c63

I'm not too keen on SUV's, the modern variety where it is jumping more on the bandwagon rather than G-Wagen, they can't even go up a kerb due to the people not wanting to damage the alloys. Never go off road.

I like this. It's not a modern SUV, it's an old time 4x4. Nowadays those terms seem to be drifting apart.

Brilliant.

I love the 3 buttons to juggle the traction. I could spend hours just working out which was the best combination to use for any given condition, then spout for a long time down the bar, " Of course I selected..."

Considering the Germans like niches (nietzsche as they say over there) I'm still surprised this niche has only 2 vehicles in it, Defender and , errr, G class.

Doing the school run and taking your little one in either a Caterham or a 6 wheeled AMG G63 would be equally cool. biggrin Anything else not so. Take heed mums in ste cars....

If I were rich I would have a defender to fulfill wild off road dreams and having fun in general.

If I were ludicrously, stupidly and hugely rich I would have a g65 amg to do the same, but being cooler while at it.

Defender, G-Class are the two only off road oriented vehicles that have awakened interest at all in me, as long as evos, imprezas or the arial nomad do not qualify.

So expensive in the UK, G350d starts at 89.922,35 or G500 105.035,35 (before options).

I will be buying one, what better 'family' car, and bring it back to the UK in LHD.

Looking at one for my next lease to see how we get on with it!

It's good for the defender fanboys to have something to aspire to. Awesomess in a box.
Would prefer a Discovery 4 with An ARB front and Kaymar rear bumper.

...but I'd be keeping my Disco 2 as well. - Owning a D4 in addition to it would allow me to fit a bigger lift and tyres without worrying about motorway driving. cool

I'm buying one of these when I move to Dubai next month. Second hand, of course. New they are far too much money.

They seem to hold value very well, even with starship mileage. My sights are set on the G55 AMG Kompressor.

I never thought much of these until I had a ride in one with my mate who has a G63. Wow.
