RE: TVR Griffith testing ramps up (a bit)
Thursday 21st December 2017
Alright, so it's 20 seconds of a car going straight on a runway. There's not all that much noise, either. But it's the TVR so, this being PistonHeads, we're rather obliged to feature the video. And get a bit more excited...
TVR Griffith testing ramps up (a bit)
Look very closely and you can see it's going very fast!
Here is the car at Dunsfold, the video description simply reading "Testing continues of the new TVR Griffith". Which sounds like progress to us, even if there's not much to go on here. The car does at least look compact, and fast, and... well, the brakes work too. That man's Cosworth coat is rather nice as well.
Alright, so we're struggling. But 2018 should be a big year for TVR, and we can't wait to see what progress is made. It's got to be a powerslide video next, hasn't it lads? Let's see more in the New Year!
Discussion
Listen i'm all for the Comeback of TVR, but really, 10sec of smartphone "footage" of the show car on a runway isn't really hitting the spot. No i don't want 10 min of slick, Holywood stylee marketing waffle about "joy" or "the journey" or whatever, but please, at least make a little bit of an effort next time. You've only got to see the standard of the amateur videographers on YouTube these days to see what's possible on a v small budget.
Also, i hardly think a few laps of Dunsfold qualifies as "testing". The OEMs are smashing out literally hundreds of miles of testing per day, across a fleets of hundreds of prototypes, across the globe, under all conditions and terrain. Come on guys, if you want to compete, try harder! With the EV revolution rolling in at an ever increasing rate, the new TVR has to be brilliant to survive, merely "good" isn't going to be enough imo.....

Trying hard to like how this car looks and failing. The video doesn't help.
I love TVR .. I own a TVR and a part of me wants to be buried in one but that would be a waste.
No issue that TVR needs to reflect changing tastes but I think my Chimaera 500 looks better in every respect
Granted I have not driven one but the new Grif lacks soul and personality. Looks like a remodelled GT86.

Fleets of prototypes of a relatively low volume sports car? Seems very unlikely. Back in the day when I worked for Dodge/Chrysler we had 3 or 4 Viper mules/prototypes... Given the advances in modelling since then I'd be surprised if TVR make more than 2 by the time customer deliveries start.Max_Torque said:

Yeah, that's my thoughts too; that's a pretty poor effort on TVR's part - it looks amateurish and does little or nothing to create a feeling of 'Want!'Also, i hardly think a few laps of Dunsfold qualifies as "testing". Maybe it doesn't matter and they've got buyers lined-up ready and waiting, however if I was a prospective buyer or customer I would be feeling a bit uninspired.

The potential customer base and clientele they are chasing won't be remotely Interested in EVs, so that's a moot point tbh. Also, i hardly think a few laps of Dunsfold qualifies as "testing". No doubt that if Porsche had come up with a similar tongue in cheek "teaser" campaign you lot would fawning all over it and saying it was genius.
They didn't.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1qtyIy22qs
