It seems as if the most fanciful postings come from people who have had the least history on PH. Suddenly a new poster lands with a doubtful story- like an alien landing.

I would have thought this thread was a wind up but having read the 're-map my Audi/Ford// for £....s' threads where posters will moan about paying £Xk for a warrantied modification from an official/well-known tuner but happy to let Baz from Croydon RS Tuning do it for '£250 only 'cos he's reputable' and the 'stock engine can handle 200bhp per litre no probs innit" ..

Err, no. More like be careful about buying an already modified car, with aftermarket bits, that still has it's manufacturers warranty intact.

Ford is only part of the problem here, but not the main cause of your frustration in this particular scenario.

So yes it has been modded that's part of the prob cus I was told that mods are covered under warranty but now they are saying only mountune mods are covered under warranty. I went back to see the bloke yesterday (had to take the bus lol) and said ur taking me for a joker and he said its ford who are the jokers!

ANyway now I have to go and get it repaired indapendentlee but after I had a go at him he said he will pay half teh repair costs depending on how much it is so that good. So warning is stay awy from this RS it is doing my nut in already especially if it turns out that they go all jellied eel on the warranty trying to slide out of it! This is my inheritance that I wanted to put down on a proper hot hatch and enjoy good car and now Im regrettin it tbh when this is sorted out I might flog it and just get something else but at least I can laugh a bit cus I'm only paying half repairs and I got cheap deal I think so fairs fair.

I don't mean to state the bleeding obvious, but surely when spending any amount of cash on a used car, more so when buying privately, you'd do a little bit of homework. Any tuned car is going to have limitations come warranty claim time. A tune won't invalidate the cars overall warranty, but it will certainly not pay out for any such failure that's even remotely attributable to the tune.

You're extremely lucky the seller is being so generous as it really doesn't appear to be their problem. You bought the car 'sold as seen' it was fine when you drove away & then imploded at some point after. Assumption is your driving style may not have been as sympathetic as the previous owners, but who knows.
