Sad times indeed. CCTV is useful if it's prominent enough to be a deterrent to keep intruders from trying to get in in the first place and alarms just tell you that your physical security wasn't much use. There's no substitute for good locks on strong doors and windows - no point in having good locks if your doors, windows and frames are weaker than them.

Sliding doors, at least older ones, could be lifted up out of the tracks, so you need to stop that. Various methods and devices are available.
Leaving the key in a euro lock, makes it the same as one with a turn knob, so vulnerable to snapping.
