Why are those dick heads driving in the outside lane?
I was about to ask the same question! Serves the A-Class driver right for lane-hogging.

In this instance you do actually need to be in lane 3 to go north onto the Liverpool ‘ring road’ although no doubt they been in lane 3 since Hull to be prepared.

Didn't touch brakes until about 3 feet from impact either = on phone, and had no idea what lane they were in, what day it was, or where they were.

I think there might be a bit more to this. If he usually drove as per that video, he wouldn't have lived past the age of 17.
It just looked ludicrous- I wonder if he was trying to kill himself? In those conditions, at that speed, he was bound to hit something.

Not sure that makes it any better though. He could have found a nice concrete bridge pier to drive into.

I thought the same watching the video. I struggle to believe there's not more to the story. He was either having some sort of mental episode or desperately trying to get away from something/someone. I'm guessing if he was under the influence of drink/drugs we'd know about it, so I doubt it's that. Terrible waste of life, that poor husband. frown

Yes, and I feel sorry for Barton's family too. They have are also bereaved, but are likely to have some sense of guilt in addition, especially if they think it was deliberate. All around tragedy.

I was about to ask the same question! Serves the A-Class driver right for lane-hogging.
Doesn't look as if the stricken car had the hazards on.

That's a steep hill was he coming down it?

I wonder if the 70mph specs that start just there will now be lowered. Any excuse...

It's a 70mph dual carriageway that leads into that roundabout. It also has a ramped banking.

Looks like he's hit it going 70mph to get that height and distance.

Link works for me.
Confusing thing about the passenger clips is that they seem to get thrown backwards for a fraction of a second before being thrown forwards. What's going on? I only noticed that by stepping through the video slowly (i..e pressing pause/run a lot). Or is that in the front one which got hit from behind?

.
In some of the video the passengers are with backs towards the front of the tram therefore massive neck rotation backwards followed being thown out of the seat on rebound. The 1st woman is obviously facing forwards and hits the seat in front at full train velocity

At least the transport agency (in Greece?) have released the footage and not tried to cover up the event like TFL did with the Croydon tram crash.
Despite having no valid reason for exceeding the speed limit to such an extent the driver still hasn't been charged with an offence 4 years on and is still on the streets despite killing seven.
