Somehow I find the CR-X design slightly distasteful and much prefer the Civic hatchback shape. getmecoat

If I remember correctly, magazines at the time were amazed at how quick these things were, and put them up against far more exotic metal in comparison tests.
Which mags did that? They were mid-high 7s and about 20 seconds to a ton
Quick, but there were still quicker stuff like the Astra 16v, 5GT Turbo, Maestro Turbo and a couple others

They were set a bit hard to have good fluency over bumpy roads according to most reviews

I do remember mine being a bit like that.
When I lowered mine I fitted a set of Tokico Progressive springs on it. Car felt so much better on the road.

Yeah exactly, lovely cars and I am a fan, but they did slightly disappoint against the stop watch compared to the competition, or even the non-VTEC model.

I test drove one with a view to replacing my 1.9 205. The CRX was lovely, but didn't have the suspension travel to get close on a typical B road.

The later Civic VTi with 160bhp was a lot quicker and more rounded as a package.

Autocar and motor got 8 seconds to sixty. https://www.flickr.com/photos/triggerscarstuff/212...

my wife had one of these as a first car. iirc 1400 on twin carbs. cracking little things.

I also had a slightly err quicker one, for a while too.

We have had 3 CRXs, we sold our last one, a mint low mileage vtec in 2007 for £3500. I bet it would be worth £10k now.

I've just done a MOT check and its still only 68k miles! That's 10K miles in 12 years.

I loved the CRX, such an iconic shape. I could never find one at the time (plus pressure from family to get something more 'modern').

You rarely see the CRZ around any more, is this because it became a bit like a miniature Prius rather than a warm / hot-hatchback?

Bit of a flop really, wasn't it?
A perfect example of a company making a car they think people would buy rather than making a car drivers wanted to buy.

they've aged beautifully and the early 2011 cars can be had for £4k now, about half the price of a similar vintage prius.

The Mk1 did not have 137bhp, it had 125bhp.

You were already told about this in the Mk1 spotted thread. Get it right PH!

Nail on head.

This is the CRZ I wanted to buy. The supercharged Mugen.

Funnily enough, I've just bought a 1990 16v with only 40k on the clock. Needs a bit of love to bring it back up to standard but looking forward to the project!

I wish I'd bought one of these when nobody wanted one and they were cheap!

CR-X SiR and VT were brilliant cars back in the day, lost count of how many I've had, starting to think they are looking
dated now though, I doubt I would have another.

The CR-Z is a good looking little car but they got it wrong with the engine, if it had a K20 or a modern version of the B series it would have sold big time, the hybrid that is in it must be pretty reliable though, I just saw one at BCA with 207k miles on it!.

I'm not so sure.

From a looks wise perspective they always look a bit odd from the rear 3/4 and under-wheeled.
The performance for a supposed 'sporty' hatch is woeful
The hybrid tech in a Prius is way better

Apart from reliability I can't think of any upsides. I guess that's why they aren't exactly sort after.

CRX VTEC - the only car I've had two of in my time. Fantastic looks and packaging and great performance for your buck. Also one of the last fastish cars your average Joe felt comfortable working on, before everything electrical became so complex. Ideal for my needs at the time - could (just) get the bike in the back and once managed 500 miles in a day with a 6 ft lad squeezed sideways across the rear 'seat'.

First was a UK model in the late 90's owned by an enthusiastic young Japanese guy returning home. Only issue was rusting electric sunroof. Second, around 2008-11, was a Japanese SiR imported by Tegawa (?). It felt even more exciting, with a more pronounced kick once the 2nd cam lobes kicked-in. Not the most reliable specimen and twice broke down on M25. Leaking header tank, hot starting always tricky, fast idle throttle valve sticking, melted rotor arm from shot distributor bearing....... But I'd forgive it all the faults as it was just such fun!

Usually not impressed by any modified cars - especially modded 80/90s Japanese car - but this one looks actually looks great (apart from that overly large exhaust pipe - but I am sure that could be replaced if you were as fussy as me)... Good value for money at that price given the condition and the work which has gone into it. The wheels and the stance of this black CRX suit it perfectly - I always liked these back in the day and it has aged well - it'll be a blast to drive.

On the CRZ - I actually like these too but they are very colour dependent. I think they look best in black too - sort of hides the undersized wheels a bit. I think they are great value for money now on the used market and as long as you accept them for what they are - a warmish hatch with a bit of style in exchange for next to no rear seats... with a decent manual gearbox and pretty good engine plus some hybrid toys and Honda reliability/build... then I reckon they make a great choice....

It's the woeful visibility and unusually-awful driving position that makes them slow, as opposed to the horrible engine.

It was so far removed from a CR-X/CRX to be a perfect example of Honda's low point.
