This can only be good news. Haymarket were a useless shower of bds who managed to suck most of the life out of Pistonheads, whilst at the same time treating the audience - their product - like scum and disregarding absolutely every concern raised.

At least that weirdo who emails Heseltine's secretary to complain about posts on PH will be neutered....

Good luck to the new owners. As long as they leave us alone to argue, bicker, banter, and occasionally even amuse and inform each other I'll be happy.

Unlike everyone else so far I'm more concerned with the staff

Have the say the PH staffers have done great job and I'd like to hope they would remain with us and secure in their positions.

What we don't need is a new set of rules and new staffing who just dont 'get' this place.

You know that old feature in the forums that highlighted your post when someone quotes you? Can we have that back please? It made it a lot easier to maintain polite conversations in threads, without searching for your username.

also a 'original poster only' view, so build threads, or ones updated after many months don't get cluttered

They should use the money raised from the sale to go into the TV or film industries, they'd blend in nicely.

I hope this breaths some new life into the fora and wider site, I want this to be my "go-to" place for car searches, but it's not (yet?)- despite responding to feedback requests, nothing has changed. This place is still responsible for my two most outrageous car purchases and I would be disappointed to see it disappear.

I’ve just received a press release from CarGurus. This sounds like very bad news for PH. This is an enthusiasts’ site, not a site for people wanting to know whether they’re getting good deal on their new Suzuki Baleno. PH will be like What Car before you know it.

Why does everyone feel this is going to have a positive impact on the forums?

They've obviously bought it for the classifieds to try and take on AT in the UK

Why would they want the forums? I suspect once they see the effort for the "reward" the big OFF button will be pressed. Thats just in managing all the snippy arguments, once they see the code base after Haymarket have bastardised it for years they'll definitely pull the plug

The clean, simple, uncluttered format of the forums is absolutely excellent. No signatures with sparkly bits, etc is excellent. But the colour coding was very helpful, and a like / count of likes in the top bit of each comment would be fine.

If they can't bring back the colour coding without buggering everything else up, leave it alone. hehe

This from CarGurus....
Today it was announced that CarGurus, Inc. has agreed to buy the motoring website, PistonHeads, from Haymarket Media Group. The acquisition is another step in our plans to accelerate growth and expand our consumer audience in the UK.
PistonHeads has built one of the UK’s most trusted and influential digital motoring brands, and we see it as a perfect fit with our own customer-centric model and pioneering ethos. We look forward to applying our technology expertise to unleash the full potential of the PistonHeads platform, while staying true to what makes the brand so special to millions of motoring enthusiasts and shoppers in the UK.
You might wonder what that means for you, our customers. Make no mistake that CarGurus remains deeply committed to investing in our platform to keep dealers ahead of the curve. Aligning the CarGurus and PistonHeads brands enables us to accelerate our audience growth, and continue to innovate our transparent marketplace. For our UK dealers, this combination will help you connect with a larger audience of car buyers at an attractive ROI.
Following completion of the acquisition, we intend to operate PistonHeads as an independent brand, maintaining the site’s popular community and content, while applying CarGurus’ technology to enhance the site experience for PistonHeads users. The acquisition is expected to close in early 2019, but I am thrilled to share this news with you today and look forward to sharing further updates as soon as I can. In the meantime, I encourage you to read our latest blog, or get in touch on the number below.

Then they'll very quickly realise that the thing they paid a lot of money for just doesn't work.

Succeed or get shut down, it's better than being stuck in this st limbo with Haymarket. It's clear now why they started pumping in the horrendous ads (to inflate the 'value' - and I use that term loosely) and why they've not bothered fixing any of the st that's fked up. Expect more ads under CarGuru though as they'll want to monetise the fk out of PH now. Thankfully uBlock Origin clears things up and removes the continuous malware risks Haymarket seem intent on subjecting their users to.

Even if PH forums get shut down, something will spring up elsewhere.

From the little I have gleaned from reading the Website Feedback forum, I understand Haymarket have stated that any technical work on the site and the forums in particular was the absolute bottom of their priority list.

I assume the new owners will want some return on their investment so will put a bit more time into improvements which is hopefully a good thing.

They haven't paid for the forums though, they have paid for the classifieds, the forums are just bundled in
