I'm impressed that massive V12 turbo engines are still available in things like this. I'll never own one, but it must be nice to be able to walk into a dealership and buy one if it takes your fancy.

Not really a frequent commenter on PH, but for that grille I will make an exception. How has that made it into production?!

I'd get an S65 while the S Class is still a current model, that's hideous.

I saw one of these on the road for the first time today. Amazingly, it looks even more ridiculous in real life than it does it pictures. Clearly, buyers must subscribe to the ‘more-is-more’ mantra, but I would be embarrassed to own / drive one.

Because that's what the Chinese want. Doesn't look quite as bad on the move

Certainly a nice place to sit.

It looks to be unanimous, the 7er has been utterly trashed in the design department, the e38 was the last one to dream after. The official narrative is that its for the chinese market....do the chimese really think that this looks good? I asked a few asian aquaintances and the unanimously agreed that it looks horrendous. It really is time for a crisis session in the upper floors of the BMW design department, they are losing the plot fast.

It's such a shame. After the oddities of the Bangle era I thought BMW had finally re-discovered their styling mojo. To me, anyway, the current 3, 5 and 7 all looked brilliant until the bizarre grill thing arrived.

"Hey, BMW" is going to really grate as well.

Why not give it a more appropriate name?

Lol, owned a Bangle 745, will own this one. They are magic to drive given their size. Drive one and then decide.

I don't think anyone is questioning that it'll be an extrodinary barge to drive (in a good way), rather they are commenting on what an extrodinary barge it is to look at (in a very bad way). That grille looks truly awful, and almost unbelievably it looks even more ridiculous in person than in photos.

I think it’s just noise. Not much you can do. Otherwise a great car. And possibly will depreciate massively.whats not to like. Too big for me now given the routes I take but an epic package. It won’t be long until you can’t buy such cars.

Bangle era was the low. But the big grilles are the trend du jour. Look at what Audi did with the grille on the new A8 and how that didn't work out. Audi hasn't lost their mojo, they've thrown it away.

I went to see the new 7 at my local dealer a couple of weeks ago. I thought in person the grill seemed quite appropriate for the car. Indeed the previous one now looks a bit ridiculous to me like someone stuck a tiny undersized 3 series grill on it for a joke.

Good to see the pricing. I'll wait until the 760's are hitting £35k in 4 years time. I just hope enough are bought in the uk with decent options so I get a choice!

Disagree in the Bangle era being low, yes at the time his designs hated, but today they have aged well imo.
I would even go as far as to say the LCI E60 is a better looking design than the F10 5 Series in a lot of ways imo.

The E60 5er especially with the Sportspacket was awesome from the start, but the Bangle 7er was a disaster despite the decent facelift. The F01 was not bad but suffered from a weak front end look, however an elegant design with nice surfaces. The G11 from 2015 until today is actually a nicely resolved design (exept that chrome embelishment below the doors) , and looked to be a return to form for the big Bimmer, but they had to put the hog snout on it now and ruin it. I am curious to see if any tuning company will come up with some sort of a nosejob kit for it.

I don't think anybody complained about the grille on a Rover SD1 or Citroen DS...

This (as tested by PH this week) is a lot easier on the eye than the chrome grille shown previously:
