Also just realised I missed a couple of proper sheds from when I was a youth.

Inherited this takeaway spec '97 Micra when my grandma gave up driving back in 2007.
Only had it a few weeks, but remember doing a work gig up in Grimsby and getting a £30 fuel voucher to cover my mileage.
Ended up giving the voucher to my dad as the tank wasn't large enough to take that much fuel!
Sold the Micra to a takeaway shop owner who haggled over a tenner. hehe

The other one was a proper heap, a '99 Peugeot 206 1.9 non-turbo Diesel.
It broke often, but managed to go all over the country and even went to Le Mans 2007.
Did about 25K miles over a year when I was 19/20 - happy memories!

Morning shedders, I discovered yesterday that one of the rear doors on Shed 1 (Mk1 Focus Estate) has been letting water in. On closer inspection it's clear that the rubber seal around the door that's no longer up to the job. Does anyone have any easy repair suggestions? Or am I better just to pick up another one, most likely from a scrappy on ebay?
pop some expanding foam inside it then close the door while it sets.

The epitome of running a shed happened this afternoon, parked up and a van reverses into my Mazdashed. Cracked number plate is the only damage, other driver offers me £20, job done!

Imagine if I was a powerfully built director type in my super car!

I've been shedding since my first car in 2009, as follows

Seat ibiza 1.4 bought for £1400 sold for £500 after 4 years.

BMW 328 touring, bought for £550, sold for £1250 after 7 years.

Just purchased this bargain:
Mercedes 320cdi for 1k.

The neighbours parents were offered 1k px...so gave me first refusal. First thoughts are that it's a really bloody nice car. We were going to buy a van for a euro road trip over the summer. But the e class is so nice, we're going to take it instead!! Goes really well too.

11 years of motoring has so far cost me £1150 in total purchase prices. Doubt I've spent more than 1k in general servicing and fixing I that period.

That Merc looks like an absolute steal for a K!

Ooo, very nice!

I was in serious talks to buy one of them a few months ago for around £1400 but I wanted it a bit cheaper as it potential repairs on one scared me.

Keep us updated on how you get on with it, would love to know what they're like longer-term at shed price.

35m2 of second hand filthy tegula paving blocks bought via e-bay.

9.45m2 per pallet, 1,272kg per pallet.

35m2 / 9.45 = 3.70 x 1,272kg = 4,706kg or 4.7 tonnes.

9nr trips so far and about 75% transported

4.7 tonnes x 75% = 3.5 tonnes

3.5 tonnes / 9nr trips = 388kg per trip or 0.38 tonne.

2 for 1 offer. Both sheds captured on a rare visit together. £1050 Give or take for the pair as bought. 40k miles on the silver auto shed so far, 7 or 8k on the manual darker one. Got to love a corrolla. I think theyll both outlive me at this rate...

Anyway I tried to find a replacement car in Munich but with even knackered old Corsa B's demanding over 1000 Euros I found it cheaper to fly back to the UK, buy a car and drive it back to Munich. Thats when I ended up with this 2004 D5 V70 for £1200. Lovely car, would certainly have another one but maybe would treat it a little better than a 'shed'.

Sold that I was heading away for a while.
And I bought the V70 D5 off you - well your folks as you were out of the country..!!

I think it was on about 208k miles when I got it and it never missed a beat. In fact I wed it out to friends and family for house moves etc as I spent 6 months overseas and sold it to a lad at work at 222k miles mid 2019. It's still going strong and rapidly approaching a quarter of a million miles.

Another 2 for 1

The current shed fleet....

Mk1 3 years in bought for 425 with a full test.
No significant spends...now on 247k

Mk 2 now 2 years in bought for 800 again full test.
Was off road for a about 6 weeks whilst I tried to source a replacement hard line for the clutch pipework.
Ford wanted around 50% of the car purchase price for one...which was a big no.
Found one on a breaker for £10 which I could just about stomach :-)
Just nudging 140k so almost broken in.

Hello! I'm looking for some shed related advice, so hope you don't mind me posting here.

Following on from my post a few days ago about the catalytic converter getting nicked off my MX5 I'm now going up to Nottingham to collect an entire MX-5 with an intact cat and decent alloys/tyres. It's an MOT fail all day long with heavily rusted chassis arms, but MOT is still valid for another 6 days.

I've never bought a car privatley from someone I don't know before so seeking the infinite wisdom from the forum:
Should I run a HPI check (for things like adverse finance against it etc) or is that not the done thing for such a cheap car?

Second question, as I only need to do one journey in the car before it gets back home onto the driveway to be ripped apart for parts/scrap would you:
a) ask the seller not to transfer title straight away so I can drive it down whilst legally still in their name. That way it's still taxed by them and I'm covered 3rd party under my own insurance.
b) transfer the sale straight away in the hope it won't change on the database immediately so hopefully I won't get pulled over on the way home. If I do though, do I run the risk of getting done for no insurance and tax?? I'm sure my third party cover won't include a car I now own...
c) do a postal transfer, so bring envelopes and stamps etc which would be a slight delay on the DVLA system so I'm safe if I get stopped as it will show as the previous owner still for a few more days.
d) or be super cautious, tax the car for the month and get some temporary insurance for the drive down.

Thank you!!!

You’ve already said you won’t be insured on your ‘Driving other cars’ policy once you own the car, so that should’ve answered the insurance question immediately

Also it sounds like the car is not roadworthy

Absolute bargains, all of them!

It actually dawned on me today that the shed in my back garden actually cost more than the shed that takes me to work every day!

I think shedding can be more interesting than regular car buying as well as cheaper. Instead of poring over the reviews and spec sheets, just select the most interesting vehicle available and know that if it's a bit st or explodey you can just buy something else.

Oh wow, that's class! Yes I remember well, I think a friend recommended it to you and then I later found out we had a few mutual friends.

That's great to hear it served you well. I did reg check the car recently to see if it was still on the road, I'd be tempted to buy it back if I needed it hehe

Took me all over Europe that car, Germany, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, Bulgaria... the list goes on.

I'd see if the current owner is okay to send the V5 away by post (or you take it and do it once you're home). Then ask if he doesn't mind keeping the insurance on the car til the end of the day, just until you get home.

I've done the above a few times (before it became so quick and easy to do it all on your mobile in 5mins) and its worked out, only half-hour journeys though.

Speak the current owner, if they're happy and you are, go that way. I'm sure they'll be people on here who'll tell you that you need to follow the law to the nth degree.

Superb taste in sheds! I'd love to own every one of them.

I often think along these lines, that sometimes the phone in my pocket cost more than the whole car I'm driving. And I don't even buy fancy phones!

Yeah I was having a conversation in work and mentioned I was on the look-out for a V70 and Paul mentioned you were selling one and the rest is history. If the lad at works ever sells it I'd be tempted to buy it back too. I still keep an eye out for any D5's for sale locally. Should never have let it go tbh.
