I've just passed 15,600 miles in my non-shed Berlingo since buying it in March!
52MPG average helps though.
My previous Micra Auto Shed did 37MPG over 26K miles.
My last - but very sheddy - Berlingo would do 50 all day long too.

Back in the days of long weekends and road trips in France and diesel being way cheaper than petrol over there it definitely ran just a little sweeter and quieter on French rather than UK diesel and was the only car I've ever had where fuel made a difference.

Think I know why trader was happy to get rid of this insignia it’s got absolutely no power whatsoever and is averaging 24mpg, and struggles to get to motorway speed in 4th snd can’t maintain its speed in 5th or 6th the fun of sheds!!

Feels like there’s no turbo attached but trader just keeps banging on about how he’s put a new oil pump on it,

Going back tomorrow to give him chance to fix it,

Either engine is goosed or the turbo is
Turbo is fuggered.

Swedish MPG (V70 2.4 170 Auto) is showing 23 as slots of local stuff,
Japanese MPG (Yaris 1.3 VVTi) is showing 54, predominately mother in law M&S runs

Averaging 25.35MPG across 15,624 miles in my 9-3 aero shed, to be expected since it’s mainly urban driving in a 2.0T with an old auto box. Coming up to 4 years of ownership soon so clearly I don’t do that many miles.

Rover 75 2.5 KV6, averaging high teens on my busy commute ...

I've been starting to consider chopping it in for something a bit tidier / more modern given breaking down in the blackwall tunnel during rush hour would be bloody awful. But it just keeps chugging on reliably ...

I bet its a split boost hose, mine was exactly the same when it split, have a good feel of the red one in the pic

I've now done 10k in my shed budget Saab 9-3, main expenditure has been brakes(discs, front calipers) and a set of decent tyres, I had the classic wet passenger floor last week as the drain was blocked and it killed the heater module which cost me £15 from ebay, it does 30mpg no matter how I drive it and it goes well for its age (I had it remapped by Noobtune when I bought it), I fitted a set of spacers to bring the wheels out a bit and I'd like to lower it a touch at the front but I think I'm too old for that now, I also painted the rear spolier as it was tatty and the bottom half of the rear bumper, the arb bushes are creaking a bit so will get them done by the garage as its a pain, still looking good after a wash.

Spruce Goose will just ignore this no doubt.... I did say it sounds too cheap - for a reason.

Is it not the actuator on turbo? Rod should move freely and if it doesn’t means turbo does very little or nothing. Easy fix usually.

You know I've been banging on about the fuel economy of a Volvo D5 Euro 3 engine?? Well 60 is usual, 70 is possible, and the best yet is 93.

Does sound like that.

I had an ex taxi Mondeo TD many moons ago that with the turbo Fubarbed was frankly scary. Pulling out onto roundabouts foot to the floor preying nothing came around anytime soon.

Certainly not happy at all. Just stating this is the exact reason for my proceed with caution/don't bother buying. You clearly have nothing between the ears.

Well the car has a 3 month warranty attached so I’m not too concerned if I’m honest, it might be a boost hose or a turbo or actuator, there’s no black smoke bellowing out though

If I Try to take it towards the red line in 2nd gear about 4k rpm it goes into limp mode BUT no light on the dash, Will see what he says tomorrow

Other than that it’s a great car if I’m honest

Always have potential issues in this end of the market, sounds good, 3 months warrenty is safety net. Good luck.

Is there any sign of smoke on a completely cold start?

I’m back in a shed. Enter the £450 ML270 (with a snapped injector bolt), currently pissing diesel out the top of the injector but i’m hopeful I can be into it for less than £800 by the time I’ve had it recovered and fixed.
I'm glad you're still here buying up the things everyone else is too scared to touch. How you take all this in your stride I have no idea. I would have broken down into a sobbing ball within 5 minutes of some of the problems you seem to go through!!
Other than the Allroad and the Alhambra camper it usually results in a decent enough shed. I've taken a break from shedding for a few months whilst I ran a borderline shed Impreza turbo which gave me no trouble at all. Garage quote me £120-£150 to do the injector bolts/seals providing I supply the parts as I always do, so hopefully it will be a semi sorted ML270 for around £650

On the subject of fuel and shedding. What sort of MPG do people see from theirs? I can imagine some are happily knocking around in 20mpg luxo shed barges but I'm also a fan of eco sheds. No idea what the Volvo gets but I'm happy with it, would love to see who's hitting the high 50/60's in their sheds.
Mine is a 2.0t S60 and if gentle, will get 37/8mpg on a motorway run at 70. Thirsty if you've a heavy right foot though, much closer to 28/30 I'd guess.

When I'm just local, it's around 27/8mpg.

I drive a work vehicle all week so its only ever used at weekends, most mileage is on the motorway so poor mpg wasn't really an issue only doing about 6000 miles a year.

Last shed was an old 2.0 S40 bought for the princely sum of £100. Ran it for 5 years, never let me down and it averaged 37mpg, a king amongst sheds tbh.

Possibly boost pipe or turbo then - similar symptoms I've had with a couple of diesels, but was smoke on first start - traced to one or two dodgy injectors
