The Joy of Running an Old Shed

On the subject of fuel and shedding. What sort of MPG do people see from theirs? I can imagine some are happily knocking around in 20mpg luxo shed barges but I'm also a fan of eco sheds. No idea what the Volvo gets but I'm happy with it, would love to see who's hitting the high 50/60's in their sheds.
234,000 mile 2.0 diesel Volvo V50 and on my old commute (mostly A-road / motorway) plus general running around it was displaying 54mpg average over several months. New commute which is through the town centre plus the odd run around the locality and it's currently suggesting 43mpg average over the past couple of months. Borderline sheddy XC70 (depending on how deep your pockets are, mine aren't) and despite weighing nigh on 2 tons and blessed with the lowest powered 185bhp D5 unit, it's displaying 37mpg average for pretty mixed driving though mostly at my wife's hands though I say that like it's a good thing, but it's not as she tends to just "drive" with minimal care for eeking out extra MPG's.

Certainly not happy at all. Just stating this is the exact reason for my proceed with caution/don't bother buying. You clearly have nothing between the ears.
