Some light BMW pron for the afternoon courtesy of a friend of mine...

3000km on the odometer...

Perhaps one of the rarest BMWs ever made (excluding silly one-offs) and apparently sold for a commensurate price this morning...

By all accounts the V6 is the sweet spot of the big engines as far as handling goes (less weight upfront) though the 2ltr 4 pot is reputed as quite the drivers car (even less weight over the nose).

As much as I wouldn't mind one myself (tin top, dark blue/silver alloys for preference) it's never going to happen as, price aside, it's a good 14 to 20cm wider (depending on who you read) than my XK and that is pushing my comfort zone in car size on the roads around my way as it is.
V8 did the best skids at FoS.

Not sure if that helps at all...

In the context of Porsche prices, and with E30 M3s fetching big numbers, I'd think that must be six figures?

so very comfortably massively into 6-figures that my gast was flabbered... But this very car has perhaps the best provenance of all 20 Jahre cars globally... And if you are willing to pay that, I am certain that other cells in your garage contain 7-figure vehicles...

My BMW beardage is more like BMW stubble, so that's a new one on me. Many changes over the standard M5? Those seats do look mighty comfy too biggrin

Did the 20-Jahre really come on Dunlops, or had BMW not moved on to fitting Michelins as standard back then?

BMW M Registry FAQ E34 M5 said:
What is an E34 M5 "20 Jahre" edition?
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of BMW Motorsport, BMW built a limited run of 20 specially-equipped M5s in October of 1992. Based on the 3.8-liter sedan, they are all painted Mugello Red (274) and include several regular options (Nürburgring Package, Shadowline trim, driver-side airbag, power sunroof, headlight washers, air conditioning with automatic air recirculation, BMW Bavaria Cassette III radio with hi-fi speakers), as well as the following special equipment:
-M Technic rearview mirrors
-Contrasting M lower body panels in Jet Black (668)
-M System II wheels with Jet Black "throwing star" covers
-Recaro SR sport seats in special M cloth with Anthracite Amaretta (faux suede) bolsters
-suede-covered steering wheel, shift knob, shift boot and parking brake handle, all with red stitching
-Carbon fiber trim on dash and door panels
-Red seatbelts with "BMW Motorsport" lettering
-Plaque on the center console with each individual number in the edition of 20

Amen. Proper car, no questions. The E34 M5 remains a unicorn for me - I've had two close but no cigar moment (one for a techo violet touring, no less - for £6k in 2008!). Gawd dammit.

The potential bork-related bills would in true deR parlance render my recent purchase as but the Lexus [TM] hehe

/showing age.

Indeed, have always wanted an E34 M5. In fact pretty much all of the 'super saloons' of that era are just fantastic, my top picks that spring to mind that would all be bought if the opportunity arose;

E34 M5
500E
Sapphire Cosworth
Lotus Carlton

I just need to check what we're doing for my boys birthday, but I think we're doing that the weekend before.

I know I'm in the minority on this and the barge thread for this but whenever the boxy looking three pointers from the 80's and 90's are posted I just recoil and tell myself I'm nowhere near old enough (at over 50) for a Mercedes Benz; but every once in a while, like the S70 that popped up a couple of years ago, an AMG offering appears that actual looks like an interesting car instead of old grey slippers.

That AMG clothed coupe is lovely.

There's a gulf of realism between the auction prices of the Lotus/Omega Carltons and the buy-it-now example.
