Hadn't realised that subarus had such chronic understeer! Nasty crash which left the biker with life changing injuries. Probably my biggest fear when out riding country roads.

A working visit to Stoke Mandeville Hospital in the mid 90's convinced me to dump my bike days for good. The results of this type of thing and long slides on tarmac were to much reality. I miss the thrills and the speeds but.....

The driver is, or more likely was, chairman of the Subaru International Drivers Club. They'd been on a run.

Think its a Subaru Legacy estate, so possibly these two were out driving together? might be why they've both had dashcams on.

Impreza driver seemed almost oblivious that there was a corner coming up.

I didn’t think the corner was that obvious. Also I’m actually surprised the Subaru appeared to be going fairly, want I would consider, steady? I expect many would have been hoofing it between corners, but he wasn’t.

That car washed out horribly, 4wd road cars are prone to doing that, especially with an unskilled driver at the wheel. Biker's worst nightmare that, he had absolutely nowhere to go and no time to react even if he did.

One thing that is a problem these days is some drivers drive on the centre line or other side of the road to carry more speed through corners or to avoid potholes. Fair enough with decent visibilty but lethal if not. I nearly had a similar accident last year on my bike with an articulated lorry occupying most of my lane. Nerve shaking at best.

We arrived at this accident whilst they were working on the biker. Judging by the state of the Impreza We honestly thought he would have died from it so it’s good to see that he made it!

I'm just glad the biker survived and I hope he makes a good recovery - but it does put me off getting a bike.

Horrible to see, there really was no time for avoidance reaction hope the biker makes a decent recovery lucky to be alive.

For all those who go out in convoy for a blast just keep this accident in the back of your mind one slip up where you push too hard and run wide could kill someone, save it for the track.

I'm not sure why the driver didn't steer more into the corner, it looks like he went round it wide and then just stayed out in the wrong lane rather than head back to the correct side asap.

Subaru's with factory geometry and ARB's understeer horribly, I thought I'd be better able to make progress in my WRX with it having much more power and 4WD but on undulating B roads my RX8 feels much more planted (both are on decent coilovers).

The corner does seem to catch him by surprise but it doesn’t look like he’s going that fast tbh, I had a hawk sti and it handled brilliantly never washed out like that and the following car made it ok was very close the biker on the ground though! If it was me I think I would have gone for the grass seeing that biker heading directly at me, easier said after and watching a video of course.

That wasn't "Subaru washout" or "4WD understeer", it was purely bad driving. To try and excuse it as anything else is just making excuses.

On a "run", driving beyond his capabilities, not reading the road, panicking and running wide.

The car could have easily made that corner, it was the driver that didn't. In the right gear, steering on when needed, he could have pulled that back. It was the corner that took the driver by surprise and he was fixated on the bike at the critical moment. Unfortunately the driver gets just about everything wrong and the biker paid the price. The car, it's setup and driven wheels aren't to blame.

My guess would be too busy looking at his mate behind and the corner crept up on him. It’s not a huge bend that (the camera makes it look worse) but it is undulating like the rest of the strines road. If you wanted to take it at speed you would want to take some of the opposite carriageway before the bend, visibility is good. I ran a 300bhp WRX for three years and know the road well.

Up until now we had actually thought he’d been overtaking the legacy and hit the biker because we couldn’t work out why the Impreza was on the wrong side of the road!
