Brand new 911 with 3 year warranty makes more sense to me?

£85k will just get you into a Carrera with a couple of options, 911's are expensive now!

Audi R8s of all flavours are conspicuous bargains secondhand.

I had my eye on a manual, Mk1 V10 for around £50k. Will never happen now as a two seat sports car is no longer of any use to me post Flash Jr, but still...wathching them depreciating on Autotrader is a guilty pleasure. One of those in Spyder version would be great. Reliable, monster engine, not horrible to drive at town speeds, and surprisingly OK servicing/maintenenance costs.

After years of owning lovely but flaky Brit sportscars, Audi's sports car really appeals. Sure, pretty humdrum interior, a bit sanitised compare to a Ferrari or Lambo, but the Mk1s looks are ageing very well (especially the Facelift with the cool rear LED lights), it won't blow up, and it sounds utterly immense).

I suspect the Mk2 will go the same way. Good for us petrolheads!

I also think cars like this (in the majority) are bought by people who would rather a car is easy to drive fast not enjoyable or involving to drive fast so the fact it is RWD is seen as a disadvantage by the people who are usually drawn to this kind of car.

If it offered a more driver focused setup, maybe a more supple fast road driving setup as seen in the GT4 or a Megane R26.R and a manual gearbox I'm sure it would be revered and far more valuable than it is now.

Either that or make it 4WD again, throw more power at it, some ridiculously overpriced blingy bodywork options, a 24" touch screen infotainment system and it would also be more desirable to the usual suspects.
I think there is something in this. I have selected the R8 as the most likely option of all the various exotica around within the (secoond hand) price range, as it is a relatively easy ownership prospect and quite nice to drive, listen to and look at. RS Porsches are definitely not in contemplation (I live in London).

All hot air. I suspect that my next car purchase will sadly be a Tesla Model 3 frown

I think the RWS looks great. I much prefer the R8 without the rear spoiler fitted that comes standard on the plus models.

A lot of car for the money and surely with only 33 uk cars these will be very sought after in years to come.

While I have no skin in this argument, I think this will be worth at least double in 10 years, when the notion of a V10, let alone a naturally aspirated one, has long vanished.

A limited run, nat asp. V10 driving the rear wheels in a well-sorted supercar chassis with genuine race pedigree? Yeah this is a long term win, and short term entertainment conveyance. Strip is a bit shorty but you can always have it removed.

Unfortunately it’s painted on which makes it more of a pain to remove.

I was one of the “lucky” 33 UK customers to get a RWS and as great a car as it has been for the last 2 years the fact it’s deprecated heavily hasn’t surprised me. All cars at this price point take a heavy hit in the first few years unless they get rave reviews from the motoring press and the usual YouTube bloggers. Audi missed a trick by not making it stand out much more from the rest of the R8 range by being more hardcore. A significantly lighter more track focused version of the R8 would had been in much greater demand, somewhat along the lines of the Huracan Performante.

Well I’ve got both an R8 RWS and a 718 Spyder and I did have a 981GT4. For me the R8 is leagues ahead of the Spyder / GT4 in almost every way, it’s a brilliant car.
will guarantee that the R8 will be with me for a lot longer than the Porsche.

I have modified my R8 a bit to make it a lot more hard core and track focused, which is what it should have been from Audi. Gratuitous pic:

Take it from me the Porsche is not worth a penny more than the Audi

I think we have the only two Ara Blue R8 RWS that came to the UK. The rest are mostly Black, white or grey.

Sorry to disappoint you, unless you're selling yours?

I find black and white a bit meh for a car like that, but Ara blue looks stunning smile

Excellent news, almost a unicorn car then smile
I see you specified the contrasting side blades which was an option. Thus making mine unique woohoo

One of the very few visual differences of the RWS from a normal car is body colored side blades so I left mine blue, I rather like it but each to their own and all that.

Lovely colour. Mine is black with black wheels and if I’m honest after years of 911 ownership I’m quite content. Won’t be selling for a very long time
