Totally irrelevant but annoys the life out of me, Is it just me or do people expect a fast car to be going fast 24/7. Can’t stick to speed to the limit because eager tts keep bumming the life out of you grrrr. My cars a tuned turbo so I drive really easy when the cars cold and constantly have every idiot flashing me and even horning, what the hell is wrong with people, there in no major rush once they pass me and overtake as they just drive at a normal speed afterwards but what is wrong with people, happened in my last car and now my new toy and Infact any quick car I’ve had, I never rag my cars cold and there generally my pride and joy so I slow down for speed bumps and great big pot holes etc...I know I’m not been paranoid as when I drive the mrs car or my my little runaround people don’t hassle me, soon as I’m in the toy they coming from every direction annoys the life out of me, what’s wrong with people!!!!
If your driving regularly causes "flashing and horning" you are doing something wrong.
If your car can't cope with speed bumps and potholes at anything over a snail's pace, it's not an appropriate car for UK roads, and it isn't fair to hold up other traffic because of your poor choice of vehicle.

As the saying goes, if you occasionally meet an arse, that person is an arse. If everyone you meet is an arse, you are probably the arse. (Or something along those lines.)

I enjoy coasting down to painfully slow speed watching them getting uppity then flooring it. Childish I know but it is fun.
I am guilty of this.
Or if they're a straight line hero and the road gets twisty accelerate through the corners, usually stops them tailgating you.

What about those same people who drive right up your arse, but seem utterly incapable of overtaking you despite clear, straight roads with no oncoming traffic, whilst I am having to drive below the speed limit on the spare wheel in my wife's car, which isn't exactly quick to start with?

I'm doing about 40-45 on a road with a 60 limit, keeping toward the left, people just won't go past, and I used to see similar when I had my Rascal which wasn't quick at all, but people appeared to let themselves tailgate me, rather than making their own progress?

Bennet fair point. But why should I break the speed limit just because the road ahead might be clear. Another valid point regarding pot holes etc, but who’s the mug that has to cough up 1000s for replacement wheels, not to mention suspension damage and front bumper. I agree if someone’s going 10 in a 30 or 20 in a 40 the motorist behind has every right to be cross, but horning at someone for going 5mph less then the speed limit or slowing down for a huge pot hole is a joke

Shaker maker exactly that! If your so annoyed and eager please go ahead and overtake me, I do have a rear view mirro I can see your headlights literally on my rear bumper and I’m not progessing any quicker, use your head and overtake. It’s funny how brave people get behind the wheel of a car, they wouldn’t act in this way if your were walking

It is just "what people / animals do". It takes some conscious thought, probably early in one's driving career, to not just blindly follow the person in front as closely as possible.

I find it very frustrating myself.

I do find it (childishly) amusing when I come to a bend, don't slow down, and the tailgater either almost comes to a standstill to negotiate it or runs extremely wide as they haven't got a clue how to take a bend, even in a fairly capable car, especially if I am driving along in our Fiesta shed. They will often come zooming back up to my bumper on the next straight bit.

What is almost as annoying is the person who tailgates, barrels past on a straight, and then slows down to a speed less than my original speed and/or takes bends at snail pace.

Just a suggestion but why not drive at the speed limit?

I mean I get not wanting to drive it like your hair is on fire, not wanting to speed and wanting to slow down for pot holes/speed bumps etc but driving it 5mph under the speed limit "because you're warming it up" is going to infuriate people and for no reason. It's going to warm up slower, it's not going to cause any damage to the engine to do the speed limit.

Ah, there we go.

I *don't* live in London but everytime I go there I'm particularly cautious because of the numbers of speed cameras about. Every single local however appears to know where every single one is and thinks nothing of doing 10mph+ over the limit and getting massively annoyed when you have the impertinence to stick to the speed limit.

Lol I use to lose them through bends in my previous M car, literally sticking to the same speed just no braking, entering and exit the apex perfectly and I’d lose them with ease lol as mentioned though, it then becomes there mission to catch you up on the straights and force there way to your rear bumper even more so, makes me chuckle lol on a serious not just bloody overtake if road ahead permits, why cause a potential accident for the sake of a few seconds of your life and agenda for the day

Fastdruid exactly that mate. Eveyone thinks it’s perfectly fine to pass a camera 5mph above the limit. Me sticking to a sensible 28 in a 30 or 38 in 40 just doesn’t cut it. It’s actually a nightmare, I much rather drive at night and that the honest truth

Are you doing (pretty much) the speed limit?

If yes, ignore them. I personally flash my hazards for a few seconds at a time until the get the message

If No, then drive at the speed limit.....and then see above.

I’m over cautious with this car as I mentioned it’s tuned and it’s a turbo. The car doesn’t want to change gear freely when it’s stone cold so I hang on to gears so I don’t stress it, You get a feel for your car, you can certainly tell when it’s cold so just for the sake of the road being a 40mph zone doesn’t mean I have to race to 40 just for the sake of some idiot behind me. I have no issue with beinh overtaken, please do so. It’s zero degrees outside my cars frosted up, windows are foggy, you can clearly see that, just go past me already.

You don't need an "M Car" to do that.

I do often wonder what many of the posters on here are like in real life. Different to me, I suspect.

Someone on Facebook was on about boy racers tailgating him, and how much he loves just leaving them for dust.

He said the Hot Hatches may be quick, but they arent properly fast like his 2.5 Omega biggrin

Hot Hatch, think he means, lowest spec old Golf like the current SOTW as a 2.5 Omega, nice cruiser in its day but they are slow relative to any hot hatch made since the nineties.

Weird what people think.

I think I may have inadvertently got revenge on one yesterday. An E class was glued right on my back bumper in a section of "Smart" motorway with a 50 limit on, despite there being another lane to the right with plenty of space for him to overtake if he wanted to play accelerate and brake between the cameras.

I got fed up with this after a while and dropped in between two HGVs. With the lane clear, he absolutely shot off and I'd guess went past the speed camera on the next gantry at about 80 before catching up the car in front of me, slamming his brakes on and doing the same to that car for the next 5 miles.

It all boils down to i care about my car more then some pillock behind me who’s go ants in his pants. I ain’t driving through a pot hole or driving a cold car quickly for some complete stranger. Don’t like it tough! A speed limit is in place to not be exceeded, means that limit and below, doesn’t mean you religiously have to travel that speed throughout that zone
