This should be a case of Dacias all round. How dare you buy anything more expensive? What a world eh?

I haven’t been in a Bentley or Rolls Royce for a couple of years, but I suspect the difference between some very comfy Volvo seats and a new Bentley would be pretty slim. And I’m in agreement that most modern cars have almost everything you could possibly want these days...

However! The difference for me between a modern car and a car like a Bentley is that extra 10% that makes it special. And that’s what people pay the big bucks for.

Fine by me. If you’ve got the money, enjoy the finer things in life. Can’t take it with you.
Exactly. I fly Emirates Business Class to Asia most weeks and occasionally First Class if a saver ticket is cheaper than the equivalent business ticket. There is very little quantifiable difference between the two, but First is just “better” and you end up arriving at your destination just that little bit less knackered and slightly more able to do your job well. That’s the different between “nice” and ”nice”

We are not talking about a Rolls Royce Phantom, although that would be even more of a pain to drive and park in London.

At one time an expensive car would be more reliable and much more comfortable and luxurious. Normal cars were often primitive.

It's not really about the "luxury" or "comfort" nowadays. Many normal other cars are luxurious -most modern cars have more features than you can shake a stick at, and many are not in any way uncomfortable or unreliable.
People perceive things differently. I'm not into wine but some people are and they can discern between a cheap and expensive one.
Cars are my thing. I had a Smart at the same time as an R8, there is a significant difference between them
I had a Tiguan and swapped it for an Evoque. It was a significant step up in comfort, design, finish, materials used, interior. Not everyone would be bothered enough to spend the extra but I was. The Bentley would be a very substantial improvement again.
If you don't care about or see the value in nice cars, why are you on this site anyway? To be contrary and annoy people?

Unexpected?

See them almost daily. The similarly sized RRS/FFRR is extremely common in London for people with a pretty penny to spend.

I guess the point is (for a fella) showing wealth, showing off and attracting like-minded puffy lipped women?
For a girl - showing other yummy mummies how successful you are and attracting the guy with tattoos and Gucci trainers.

Seem pretty compelling reasons to me!
How really sad is that.
We all come with nothing and go with nothing yet some feel the need to actually try to show they have money. In reality though it's mostly those who dress in baggy trousers, jacket with elbow patches and those that drive around in a rusty nondescript car who have the real money. The others it's all pcp and finance, that's what the others are showing, how much they're in debt..

So no-one can enjoy owning and driving a comfortable and luxurious car without you forming crass stereotypes and judging them. Another cracking contribution to this MOTORING forum, keep it up

Real wood , everything covered in leather not just the seats .I mean everything.....,door jams , centre console , rear parcel shelf to name a few .

Everything is either leather metal ( switches ) or real wood .
With the woods you can spec extra woods .

Just a nice place to be .
So you need acres of wood and leather everywhere just to get from A to B.
Plastic and fabric... pah.. for peasants surely..

This is where you're wrong dear chap. Sit in a Rolls Royce Phantom and tell me the difference between it and a 7 series BMW is "academic". Having owned 2 7 series, and having been in a brand new one as well as sitting in the current and previous generation Phantom, you are wildly, wildly wrong. Either that or you can't appreciate the niceties.

You say it's spending money for the sake of it....that just isn't true.

Maybe you are sensitive.
I refer you to the story of the Princess and The Pea.

We aren't talking about a Rolls Royce, but the principle is the same regardless.

Why call me sensitive? Whether I'm sensitive or not has nothing to do with this discussion, so why have you resorted to trying to be derogatory? "It's not really about luxury or comfort nowadays".... Yes it is. It's about luxury and comfort, performance, NVH etc and how a car makes you feel. You clearly struggle to grasp the concept and don't appreciate the finer things in life. Just buy a Mondeo estate diesel and stick with the happy meals.

Yes. I'm not suggesting that people can't or shouldn't. Just that it probably won't improve your life much by doing so. Unless you are a princess, of course wink

I have both Lotus and Porsche but it doesn't make me a better person for it, I also have a fiat 126 but of course that's a peasants car. The way some look down on others with their snout in the air on this forum is unreal..

The Bentayda a BIG BIG gold wristwatch covered in diamonds.

When I lived in London, most people could happily have commuted in a Mercedes E200 rather than a E55, or a 520i rather than a M5.

So are you saying that a Bentley isnt any more comfortable and luxurious than a new but much cheaper car? Say something like a focus or a mondeo?
So MC, what's your reply?

T-Rex. I’d like just to point out that you asked this chap why he had resorted to being derogatory to you. And then you were derogatory to him back.

And there’s nothing wrong with a happy meal. wink

I didn't call him anything derogatory. I said he struggled to grasp a concept and doesn't appear to appreciate the finer things in life. That's not calling him something.

And yes, happy meals are revolting things hehe but then again, I don't really like any fast food because the quality is almost always crap. I'd rather cook myself or go to eat out somewhere nice.... Maybe I a princess and don't like the crap stuff? hehe

I think implying he was too stupid to grasp a simple concept was on a similar level to his implication you’re sensitive.

But it doesn’t matter, I’d rather take issue with you saying McDonald’s isn’t nice and food is crap. I bet you don’t like KFC either. You princess!

Yep, typical PH in his slightly nasty reply.

Mcdonalds and KFC are ok edible food, but I don't think anyone would go any further than that.
