I believe Wales is a standard large unit of area too.

The distances to the next places on motorway signs are in miles. The distances on road signs at junctions are in miles.

Therefore anything in connection with roads should be quoted in miles.

Why do some TV presenters quote kms when talking about a distance. They need to look at the road signs!!

I can still remember the first budget after the change from gallons to litres and, if memory serves, it went up by 2p a litre. Father said that wasn’t too bad until I pointed out it was something like 11p on a gallon. Which the government couldn’t have got away with at the time. I agree it was a stealth tax increase. And a lucrative one at that.

I love the fact that the Apollo space missions flight computer, the AGC, calculated everything in metric, but displayed it in imperial for the American crew smile

Metric was more efficient for calculations.
