If someone had suggested just 10 years ago about our becoming a surveillance state by 2020 (like 1984) they would have been laughed at.
What? Did you miss the whole ID cards thing and the massive debate around that? That was 15 years ago.
30 years ago, when people still used to say "it's a free country", maybe. But 10, nah. All that's happened is that people have decided that really, they don't care very much, provided they can have facebook and instagram and all the rest.

I have high hopes for the new options that will be available to car designers freed of the requirements of an ICE vehicle.

There will be vehicles if all types, just as there are now.

The future Ferrari may look better than the future Ford, but if your only advantage is looks then a lot of people will take the added practicality of a saloon or hatch over a wedgy two-seater.
aren't we already there? If you want to be pedantic, the only real advantage the Fezza has over a Ford is acceleration (looks are subjective):

- Who cares about top speed (academic here)?
- a diesel Focus will get you to your destination (in real terms) as fast as a Ferrari, if not quicker
- most of the range will carry more people more comfortably than a Ferrari
- the build quality of a Ferrari should be better and harder wearing than a Ford, but this hasn't always been the case

despite the perceived advantages I know I'd rather have the Ferrari than a Focus/Mondeo/C-Max/S-Max
Depending on the exact model, the Ferrari and similar 'sports cars' will undoubtedly give the enthusiastic driver a far greater sense of occasion and far greater driver involvement through challenge and rewarding driver input back through the car than will any Ford or current ev.

You dont have to be doing warp speeds to benefit from these clear benefits either as if the car is truly driver focused it will be communicating input from the driver at even low speeds.
