”All that glisters...” Lovely car, shame about the reliability and the poor quality components. Which suggests Tata must have a very cynical business model that‘s focused on cost-cutting.
So true. When the Jaguar magazine did a feature on the 'F' Type now that prices had begun to fall the list of problems likely to be encountered was horrendous & enough to put any buyer off. Talk about putting Jaguar to shame & no wonder the likes of Mercedes & Porsche wipe the floor when it comes to build quality & reliability. I wouldn't touch a modern day India company owned Jaguar with a barge-pole.
In reality if you read most used performance car buyers guides you would be put off and just go and buy a Lexus..yawn!
Better to head over to the marque forums for an owner's view.
Certainly on the F Type forum reliability is not a hot topic, whereas enjoyment, smile factor and design is.

The coupe is lovely imo.
Is there an aftermarket for these cars? Suspension upgrades? Pulley for the supercharged V8? Maybe an exhaust manifold (headers) and tune for the V6? Or are these sorts of changes simply not the done thing?
Yes, yes, yes and no they are.Is there an aftermarket for these cars? Suspension upgrades? Pulley for the supercharged V8? Maybe an exhaust manifold (headers) and tune for the V6? Or are these sorts of changes simply not the done thing?

What was the frequency of engine failure for the V6? I’d love one, but having just been stuck with a high 4 figure bill for my XFR I’m not sure I could face giving Jag another chance when there’s a known issue.
Never heard of one on the F Type forum and forums always highlight the worst case scenarios i.e. IMS on Porsche engines.1. Chain tensioners. Hard to notice it until too late.
2. Tappets. The rear inlet valve tappets suffer with oil starvation on start up. Couple that with a manufacturing defect on the tappet hardening (or lack of) cause the tappet to wear a bit weirdly. That causes valve guide wear. That’s a new head, or a new engine.
V8s and V6s suffer with #1’equally.
V6s suffer with #2 mainly, but a few V8s do too, as did mine. £11k warranty job.

I have a V6 S Coupe which is just coming up to 10k miles, I absolutely love it, nothing has gone wrong with it and it has a true Jekyll & Hyde character when switching it between the driving modes, next one will be a V8
Nothing has gone wrong with it because you haven't used it... I was up in York yesterday and there was a V8 Coupe F-Type with a Audi R8 following him, I don't know what the chap had done to his exhaust in the F-Type but the noise it made was epic. It was louder than the R8, and it put the noise that the R8 made to shame and that really surprised me to be fair. I'm a child at heart(especially with car noises), and I can safely say that the noise those two were making made my day!
I really want a V8 F-Type now for sure.

I have had a MY15 340bhp convertible for 3 years as my daily driver and I’ve been so happy with it, I can’t part with it although my head says I should. Never had any issues with it, but I have extended Jaguar warranty, just in case. This car is a blast and always attracts complimentary comments wherever I go.

about 9 months and another 8k miles after this the V6 S was swapped for a facelift P450 V8. With the facelift whilst the looks are subjective (I personally prefer the pre-facelift headlights but prefer other elements of the facelifted car) yet objectively the cars are quite different in character, the later cars are definitely softer riding and in comfort mode, a lot quieter and much more of a GT feel, with it only reverting back to being a hooligan when all the modes are in their most aggressive setting. The earlier cars are certainly more raw and the supercharger whine of the V6 is certainly less pronounced in the V8. Both cars do similar MPG but the V8 is noticeably quickerI think if I was buying used a late pre-facelift V8 R could maybe be the sweetspot but whichever you go for they're a fantastic car
