Hi fellow PH’ers,

The wife and I were talking about motoring as she doesn’t understand why I like I cars so much. I have owned a number of cars as I enjoy driving and have had an obsession since I was a toddler.. She simply sees it as a means of getting from A-B which I don’t get?!?

For those in my position, it’ll be interesting to see what you have owned/own VS what your partner drives.

Here are the cars I have owned (in order)

Here is what she owns:

My OH drives a GT86 and is very much into her cars.
Before that, she had a Swift Sport.

We're in the process of buying our first home and with me owning the Mustang and her PCP on the GT86 ending in a few months, she has decided to replace it with something more practical as the Skoda CitiGo I use for practical runs won't be staying with us.

My other half couldn't care less about cars and so drives a 2008 Corsa 1.4 Auto.

it is hateful but it demands absolutely nothing other than fuel and basic consumables.

It will likely need to go for something a bit bigger this year as we've got a second child on the way and with 2 car seats in the back I would never be able to fit in the front comfortably, and I hope we get something less hateful, and fortunately she does like the look of a Yeti, which ought to fit our size requirements and equally, the auto gearbox in them is actually good (OK for the tedious pedants it is a DSG which apparently isn't actually an auto even though it only has 2 pedals and no flappy paddles?)

Currently drives a peppermint green Fiat 500. Had a text earlier today saying she wants to change it for a 2015 SLK in black.

Which pleases me.

Hopefully it’s the petrol version.

Mrs JS has a rather leggy Vauxhall Tigra with faded red paint, a big crack in the rear bumper from where she backed it into a post and a lavish helping of supermarket dings and country lane hedge rashes down the sides. The wheels are a bit scuffed and bubbly and although its mechanically well maintained and reasonably clean inside it's covered in dust because it's not been washed for months.

She knows she can have a replacement car anytime she fancies but she loves the one she's got. smile

SWMBO has little interest in cars but does require a minimum level of performance from hers.

Previously owned

The last 2 I was part of the purchasing process

Mine had a Polo automatic, then a Yaris Automatic, and now a Golf GTI DSG - guess which one I had a hand in recommending!

Me "mrs" drives a 2018 Auto BMW 118i.

Surprisingly nice car to drive, feels totally different to the older beamers I've driven (E46, E36).

My wife had a 2011 Golf MK 6, here in Canada we got the 2.5 five cylinder engine version, so while it’s no sportscar, it goes well enough, she will miss it once it’s gone, as will I.

Since passing her test, Mrs Banana has had:

- Ford Escort Mk3 Estate
- Peugeot 205 Zest
(Then she moved in with me)
- Peugeot 205 GR
- Saab 900 Turbo
- Citroen 2CV (the one that caught fire on the way to the scrappie)
- Vauxhall Vectra V6 SRI
- Ford Fiesta Mk1
- Ford Fiesta Mk2
- Ford Fiesta Mk3
- Ford Mondeo
(Then the kids came along)
- Peugeot 406 HDI Estate
- Ford Scorpio Ultima Estate
- Renault Scenic
- Nissan Micra (inherited from my late Mum)
- Ford Fiesta Mk whatever, I've lost interest, 12 plate. Has a dirty great dent in one door and is used as an actual shed.

As you can see, not really a car person. Currently looking to get something new / near new on a lease, largely because I forced her hand by buying her a 69 private plate for her birthday.
