Hi folks, I’m the proud owner of a completely standard (except black wheels) R32 that I’ve owned for over 10 years. It’s been my pride and joy and used every day (well not in lockdown).

The car is completely standard doesn’t even have a Miltek exhaust. The wheels are black as I wanted original VW wheels (and the bolt spacing is a nightmare) so replaced with all black as buying 4 black ones from ebay was cheaper than VW wanting £450 for a new one, original wheel got a hairline crack.

So one of my favourites just from phone so not too staged. My wife things should sell it and used we buy any car... I told her that it’s worth more than their estimate of £450!!!

So should I sell or should it go now??

Incidentally is 3 door more valuable than 5 door?? - my reckoning 5 door fits kids and surfboard far better, thoughts?

This is something that only you can decide.

I think well kept mk4 Golfs are going to be a bit of a classic. They're the last Golf that's actually shaped roughly like a Golf, rather than an amorphous blob.

The R32 is just the wrong side of chavvy for my tastes, but if you like it and it's still meeting your needs, I'd say keep it.

Isn't that the same thing?

If its a good car in good condition and you don't mind keeping it why not have it as a second car?

Looks nice and I think 5 door has a better shape than the 3, whats the mileage and the condition like?

What’s would be the reason to sell it. You say your wife wants to but why?

I like them. Mk4 golf was a bit of a dynamic dullard, but not the worst by any means. Quality bit of kit though. Felt much more together than the admittedly better mk5. Never driven r32 but I like the big engine in a small package deal, bet its a hoot.

If you love it, for the sake of £450, just hang on.

I would suggest WBAC are trying to pull your pants down. It’s worth a lot more than that unless it has super stellar milage. Nice car, all the more so for being pretty standard.

Well worth hanging onto as long as the mileage isn’t massive , 3 door slightly more sought after , but these will be worth a bit one day (Standard)

Seen them go recently for 10k and much more depending on condition. There are cheaper ones around but in a more used doggier condition.

I think the MK4 R32 is seeing a rise in values now as the chavs have moved on to the MK5 and newer. Also, the MK5 was built in vastly higher numbers. The MK4 also feels more special, a step further away from a standard car that the MK5 just didn't have as much. The Deep Blue Pearl was exclusive to the R32 too.

I say keep it. It's perfectly practical, and a decent all-rounder. If you look after it I predict values rising rapidly in 5-10 years.

Must have been really good example at that. I'm a fan, really like a mk4 golf.

Just looked on a few sites (ebay etc) and the average price seems to be 10k.

Not a lot of standard early ones around, I don't think it will be long before standard R32s attract the attention of classic car market and end up being closer to £4500 than £450.
