These w221's seem to be aging extremly well.
Indeed, not always the case with MB; the CLS for example, I thought fantastic when it came out, yet now they seem as frumpy as great Aunt Maud.

A handsome old bus, only 34,000 miles and a fresh MOT, £3995.

I love the retro dashboard in these.

Not just retro, but classy and informative, unlike those from the X308 onwards.

I had a 4.0 litre one with ten times the mileage, and infinite quantities of rust, yet it still did the job perfectly.
Actually, I want the XJR6 parked next to it.

Back in the 21st century, is there a specific time and meeting spot for Duxford next Sunday? Mrs Locke has been softened up for me abandoning the new home to meet you lot just two days after moving. cool

If I had to guess, and put some money on it, I’d say that’s a lower model X300 with the XJR wheels.

Just had my car insurance renewal through, it has gone down but, oddly, there's no way of being able to pay it annually online, so I need to phone them to stop it just being a direct debit (and costing an extra £58!). Oddly.....I have just tried Go Compare again and no quotes! Not a single one will insure me!? WTF? I don't understand that. 10 years no claims, no convictions, no claims.....Strange, no?!

edit - just gone to Confused.com - £343 with a few extras like windscreen cover etc. I'll take that biggrin

I’m in Aberdeen, but may need to travel to Newcastle to pick my son up next Saturday, if that’s the case I may well make the effort to carry on to Duxford as I’ve never attended a PH meet, and I’m sure my son will appreciate a car and plane day with his dad.

Not in a proper barge, but I will have my non tinted window C63 Estate if the logistics work in my favour

It does look good doesn't it, particularly given how poor the W220 usually looks, but I can't help but wonder if the interior is really that immaculately clean or if there is some creative photo editing going on. None the less spending more than a couple of grand for a W220 doesn't make a lot of sense to me, however clean, unless you truly cannot stretch the budget to the much better in every way W221; it's not like a 7 series where you can clearly see why you'd get an E38 over an E65, or a Jaguar X308 over the X350.
I need to sharpen my barge knowledge, as the dark grey and cream interior 221 posted looks much better. 👍

I really, really like that. Would I like it more than an S600 though?

Please can someone buy it before I find out.
It’s a beautiful car with an amazing spec, but it’s still a 10 year old motor and 15k will get you a much newer decent W212.

10years is when rubber bushes etc start to need replacing, no matter what the mileage.

Seller sights 1 owner had it for 3 years then another for 7, then him, but it’s only 10 year old?

Maybe worth 10k? Or he’d be as well keeping it for 10 years.

Agree about the E500.

It is very niche and, for the discerning barge collector, a fantastic bit of kit.

However, it is getting on and the price is simply to high in my opinion.

Get it up for £9,XXX and it will go straight away in my opinion (I would have it!).

Also agree about the E500. Nice car but needs to be circa £10k. I would buy an e63 wagon instead at the current price

I think if this had the twin round headlights I'd buy it.

I just think they are ugly. But. I like BMW X6 and Renault Avantimes, so, in the grand scheme of things, my opinions are best left unkicked, like a bike full of malevolent wasps who have neither the moral nor ethical right to sting fk out of you, but sting they will....
No worries, I am also a fan of the Avantime (even the Vel Satis looks good to my eyes), along with other examples that are widely considered to be hideous. I however draw a line by the X6...
As do many others man beer
It’s almost worth viewing just on the basis of the dealers name alone. Must be an interesting story there.
Rock up with £4900 in cash. They’ll refuse. Walk away then wait for their call an hour later.

Not sure how much more motor you can get for 5 bags.

The 500 seems like the pick. Relatively straight fwd engine.

Add a cheap private plate and the neighbours will think you’ve worn the lottery.

The seller is on MB Club. And appears to have other Mercs for sale. I don't know if that makes Mike In Wimbledon a trader, or merely a serial purchaser, but it seems many have called and no one has bought. With the desire to offload this month I'm sure there's more to come off the price.

In other "vehicles at 3* thread" news, help settle an argument for me- just how much of a wally does a grown person look in a G4 Disco?

Would depend wholly on geographical area of use I’d say.

I had a few interactions with him about a s211 he was selling a few years ago. Pretty sure he is just a serial purchaser. I was in a hurry to buy, he wasn’t in a hurry to sell and so we didn’t do a deal in the end.

I agree.

In London? A bit of a wally. In the highlands, and the car is filthy with some off road boas tyres on? Then I'd just think it was cool.

It looks really nice and is probably worth £10k of anyone’s money.
I’d think about offering him £9k maybe and try and keep it for a decade or so.
Nice E500 to smoke around in and cost you about a grand a year before repairs and maintenance.
