So we now have
-Golf R
-Posh Golf R
-Golf R on stilts
-Golf R on bigger stilts
-Posh Golf R on stilts
-Posh Golf R on big stilts
-Spanish Golf R
-Spanish Golf R on stilts
-Spanish Golf R with a bodykit

I mean I'm sure it's a great drivetrain but is this really necessary?
People buy them, so yes.
I think the question is, why?

ITV2 keep making variations of some z-list farce show and people watch that. Just because something's popular doesnt automatically make it any good.

It takes enthusiasts to notice that and quite rightly call it out.
Nobody gives a st about what car enthusiasts think, not that they all think the same thing anyway.

That interieur is just such a poor effort for a brand that supposedly puts design as a major selling point. The whole thing just looks like it tries too hard.
Maybe the VAG boys know something we don’t!

If you want a Leon you buy a SEAT, if you want something with 250ps+ you buy a CUPRA.
So why can you buy a cupra with a 150ps 1.5?

While I’d have liked the fastest Seats to be a cupra, like the old cupra R Leon and ibiza days, they kept saying “we are going our own way, wait for our own bespoke model blah de blah” so gave them benefit of the doubt. So for that bespoke model to reuse the same engine every other vag product has got, in the same tune, just in a fancy frock is a little disappointing. I get it, 99% don’t care, but just another VAG model instead of something interesting

I would of thought they could squeeze more power from a 1.5 than that! I guess it fits into Seats range better though.

I think I said it before, but I reckon they should be positioning the Cupra brand as a modern Tesla rival and tapping into the growing performance electric market, that way it would differentiate the brand and allow future growth rather than short sightedly rebranding 1.5 petrols as sporty and yet another 2.0T, which just takes sales away from others like the Ateca. I know there are hybrids coming but I haven't seen anything to suggest what the future of Cupra will be except to sit alongside the other brands doing the same thing in an apparently more sporty way!

The first time I saw that name, I read 'Fermentor', so this will always be the Cupra Fermentor in my eyes!!

1.6 tonnes for what is essentially a four door family hatchback! when will the industry & consumers wake up & see that these tonka toys are just appealing to ego, the 'crossover' SUV is even more ridiculous than the full fat SUV, don't get me started on the SUV 'coupe', knock 200 KG off & you will have a more efficient family car, taking up less space on the road & causing less impact, which is what we should be striving for.

Little rants like this do make me smile.

If this had been an estate car I guarantee you wouldn't have posted about it.

I think the exterior looks pretty good but it's really hard to get excited with yet another EA888, MQB car. They aren't bad bones, it's just, imagine eating nothing but spaghetti since 2012 and only having slightly different sauces, but you are going to 5 different restaurants.

Does it have any sort of USP?

Just another generic car using the usual parts bin.
