M GMBH announce they're going to offer a fully-electric car in 2021. No details on what it will be, no visual teaser images, no tech details, no performance details, nothing. At all.

But that doesn't stop the hard of thinking repetitive dullards on here professing that it'll be ugly, it'll have limited range, or just a plain 'yuck'.

And then of course there's the usual BMW thread cringeworthy comment from Greg the Fish - I suspect he applied for BMW finance once, got turned down, then found out his Mrs had given the dismissive salesman her number hehehehe. I can think of a better use of the acronym GtF which should apply to his posts.

I'm no fan of the new M4's looks, and certainly not those of the iX either, but I'm grown up enough to want to understand more about an as-yet unknown vehicle before I summarily dismiss it 'because BMW, innit'.
I’m glad it’s just not me then! Maybe it’s because I’m really bored of boring things at the moment. Apoplectic horror at the way new BMWs look has become incredibly boring. Did I mention I was bored.

It’s more than that though isn’t it. The whole BMW bashing thing has been a thing on here for as long as I can remember. Like frozen sausages it’s now just tedious.
Name a brand... It's the same for all of them, no reason why BMW should be exempt smile

EDIT: I will say this: If, when they release the pictures, I think it has a nice face, I'll say as much on this thread or that one. It will be a pleasant surprise.

It really is a disgusting shape, shame as I've enjoyed serveral BMW's over the years.

Wait, you have pictures of this new fully electric M model? Could you share them please so some of the other fools on this thread can confirm or revise their stance vis a vis its' looks?

I don’t think an M EV could be too bad. Porsche has already shown us they can make a great drivers EV (Taycan Turbo S) so why is it any different if BMW M can make a powersliding dynamically great EV beneath the ugly as sin body? The F8x series was not exactly an amazing sound and I’m sure BMW could come up with an electrified engine sound. Porsche did a good job.

As a real world proposition, my money would go on Porsche rather than Tesla - away from the whole battery tech, the Porsche to me is a more important proposition. A car is more than a sum of its parts, the Tesla doesn’t really appeal to me as car outside of the battery tech and speed. And the Taycan definitely has speed and finesse covered

I'd really like someone to explain to me what all the fuss is about.

It's a BMW, it's going have double kidney grilles, that you can just about bet your life on.

Three option:
1. Slim/tall kidney grilles (as seen on early BMWs).
2. Wide/flat kidney grilles over a separate mouth (done to death over the last 50 years).
3. Tall/wide kidney grilles.

Option 2 on a modern EV ends up looking exactly like the the iX3, obviously.
This is bland and unadventurous.

Therefore the only remain choice is option 3, what you see on the iX.
It's not exactly rocket science.
The problem is that the kidney's do not integrate with the rest of the front very well. Lexus have a large grill, Alpha and old BMW's had a portrait grill which all integrated better. I also think that if the grill was not an issue then there would be more negative comments about the bland side profile and let's not get onto the interiors. For a £70k plus car it just misses the mark. The back is nice though.
You’re spot on. The front - well enough said - but looking at the rear 3/4 view in that yellow - it just looks horrible - fat, bloaty and not a patch on previous designs.
M division sales last year saw huge increases in Russia, Korea and Italy and demand remains strong is the USA. It seems that a lot of posters on here still think that the car buying centre of the universe is a small village in Norfolk. The cars look the way they do because that's what the majority of the new car buying market wants, why is this so hard to understand.
We think it's ugly and we're saying so. What's so hard to understand about that?
Sales are high because prices are heavily discounted, End of.

Some of us actually remember when almost all the BMW line-up looked good.

Design turgid st and you can expect constant bashing. Rightfully so, they've properly lost the plot on a lot of cars in recent years.

Interesting that M cars have been selling so well, I guess it shows the continuing and perhaps increasing divide between rich and poor in the 21st century.
How does more expensive cars selling to more people point to an increasing divide between the rich and the poor?
While at the bottom quite a lot of people seem to feel that the value of their wages maybe haven't kept up with inflation and their ability to buy things like new cars and houses has diminished, relatively speaking.
Yet more people than ever have an expansive M car on the drive?

Hilarious that the bar is set at Lexus here, and that the mighty BMW appears to fall below that. My, how the mighty have fallen!

What is that thing in the middle that looks like someone used a rusty screw to hold the front on?

Whatever it is, surely it would be better hidden in the grille where people will avert their gaze.

The fact M division sales is up seems to be a bit of a cheat right?

It now includes the X5 and X6 Ms, and the M440 ones and a bunch of other "warm" variants... I wonder how they compare only on the full fat M cars?
BMW M have clearly missed a trick. If only they'd had the audacity to put an M and a little rainbow on every 216d and bog-standard Mini they could have sold 2.5m cars in 2019, rather than the pitifully small number they actually did sell.

It’s a camera.

But now I can’t unsee it. It makes the front even uglier. Was this even possible?

It looks like an ugly wart.

If they can do away with the windscreen, they can make the kidney grilles bigger!

Generally my point is that wealth inequality in the UK today seems relatively high. Are you disagreeing?
