In a surprising turn of events the chap came back to me with an agreeable offer and I have as of Saturday sold the 190e!
I should stop dedicating my user name to my car.
Nicely done. If you act quickly you'll get first purchase of the new volume. I should stop dedicating my user name to my car.

Lovely.
I loved the few test drives I did of 630i and 650i E63s... The 630i for me handled the best... Sounded good too
Looks like a really well looked after example though. My kind of advert.

The autobox runs really well in these IMO.
Suits the car, a proper long distance GT car
Well personally, I'd get a V8. Which would then be an auto. Suits the car, a proper long distance GT car
I think a *30i is a waste of time in a car like the 6er, which really has got to be considered a GT.
But as thread is so against the V8, if I had to have a 6 cylinder, i'd try and get a manual.
The engine is more than capable of getting the car to license losing speeds in no time at all and with it being that bit lighter; it makes for the handling of the car to be better IMO
All personal preference I know, but I don't agree the engines a waste; it works really well and it is, slightly, less troublesome than the V8 in these. Cheaper to fix and maintain too
Worth checking out fastbikes76's Reader's Ride thread - he's got both a 630 and 650.

My first post of the new volume. This is so nice-looking that if I had any money I'd be investigating buying it before posting it here. I thought it must be a Japanese import at first (no bad thing) but i am pretty sure it is not. Anyway, midnight blue paint with blue leather w124 E320 with the perfect specification: the biggest motor, the four speed box, air con and heated seats. The other extras are nice (and pretty complete): electric seats, orthopaedic driver's seat, and either ASD or ASD and self-levelling rear suspension (I am pretty sure it has both: it has the warning lamp in the instrument cluster for ASD and it has two return feeds to the hydraulic fluid reservoir). It also has a factory "special" headunit with four speakers and, if I am not mistaken, a Hirschmann antenna. I also note it has a sportline steering wheel and alloy wheels; no idea whether it has sportline suspension: I'd hope not. It is missing an engine under tray. What a nice car.

But why would you pay £6k for a w124 with a 3.2litre six when you could pay a lot less (assuming you can find your way through the forest of Shill bids) for a w210 with a 4.3litre V8?

Previous generation, admittedly, but my only experience of BMW auto's have been E39 and E46. The engine is more than capable of getting the car to license losing speeds in no time at all and with it being that bit lighter; it makes for the handling of the car to be better IMO

Having owned manual and auto sixes in both variants (with the same engine), the manuals were a million times better/nicer to drive.
Owned an E38 that was auto (V8, natch) and that suited auto.
Owned an E66 (that may not be correct model designation; 2006) 750i, auto was great in that, too.
So my first line was a lie, haha. I have more BMW auto gearbox experience than I initially realised.
But I still preferred manual versions of my BMW sixes.

Apart from the M5; E39s just don't suit a manual box IMO. But then again that is my personal preference and I'm an old fart before my time at 41
I have driven an E39 530i in manual guise; I felt he gear change/throw was overly long, notchy and just not an enjoyable drive. That was with a brand new clutch and serviced box; and from what I've read about them, that's how they all seem to be, even the M5. But know the 545i short shift kit can be fitted (I think it's that); which apparently makes it much better
I have driven a 330Ci (that's the E46 coupe isn't it); that was a belting car, manual box was great. The car was on AP coilovers & with a BBK; so it did have a different feel to it...
It's a car I've touted for the wife and she'd be interested in one, when we get out of the lockdown and she may start to commute again, and to replace the Racing Jazz

Lovely car, but this:https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MERCEDES-E320-SALOON-W1...
"notable bill in 2012 totalling £14,246.45"
I'm sorry but there is nothing on that car that should have cost £14k, other than buying three or four new ones in 2012. My experience of flicking through the bills for my S600 very strongly suggests that Merc dealers *and* Merc "specialists" absolutely bend you over. In the case of one specialist my car has spent time with I'm now convinced they are actually crooks.
