Thanks, started doing my homework so I can fit in at the next barge meet...https://mag.lexus.co.uk/innovations-of-the-second-...
If you’ve not seen a recent RR thread, this one says he’s spent £12k on the 24k he’s done in a 745...

Ooof. I suppose it could be an element of confirmation bias but I cannot see why you'd buy an E65 over any, any other barge. I've read so many tales of horror and woe trying to keep them going, and my friends 730d is always broken too. I don't think I've ever read or heard about a single W221 ownership experience that has come close to the pain of an E65, let alone an LS or XJ.https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Scanning through FB marketplace and few caught my eye:
X300 for £1500. Doesn't look too bad for the money: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/13521590...
Hmm, advert says 3.2 but the shape of the badge on the back suggests this is a sovereign, which means it should have the proper 4 litre (though non supercharged) engine and the better gearbox (with sports mode!) as well as cruise control, full leather etc, which not all X300s had.X300 for £1500. If it really is only the 3.2 then either my Jaguar beard is not as luxuriant as I thought, or it's been up-badged

When he first mentioned 12k of work I assumed he must have been taking it to BMW for everything, then I saw that he did 99% of the work himself
You weren’t alone in that expectation/errordeadtom said:

I reckon it's an Executive rather than a Sovereign. That would account for the 3.2 engine. If it really is only the 3.2 then either my Jaguar beard is not as luxuriant as I thought, or it's been up-badged

Sovereign chrome grille and trims. leather and colour palette, but Sport seats, (narrower) Dimple alloys and lowered/uprated suspension. And a surprisingly stingy spec.
I have stumbled across this today for a little over mid-thread.
I seem to remember there was some love for these here, although maybe the auto is not the best option?
Still seems a bit expensive, but I have not adjusted well to the recent price hike in all things classic.
