I hear you macky17.
I owned a facelift (mk7.5 DSG) for 8 months and couldn't gel with it. I was reluctant to sell the car because its a handsome and appealing product but after persevering for long enough to appease my wife, I moved on.
A manual would have possibly added a layer of interaction, but ultimately it was the steering that killed if for me - totally lifeless. Dan draws exactly the same conclusion in reviewing the Clubsport last week (around 12 minutes in if memory serves).

I've found the same, Matt / macky17. I haven't had my mk7.5 estate for long but I can't get on with the steering. I had a Leon Cupra ST 300 before that and the steering was decent, so I expected the same from the Golf. Maybe it's the standard Continentals? My MK7.5 estate came on Bridgestones. They were terrible, and unfortunately lasted ages. Changed them to PS4s 6 months ago and there was a marked improvement. Turn in is far crisper. HardMiles said:
Another car for true dullards that don't actually like driving! YAWN!
Why not a write up on the new Noble or something that needs a driver to be at the helm, as opposed to a financed 12 years olds pops n farts mobile.

Great value for money, when discounted!
I can't wait to see the reviews of the Yaris GR versus this.
Which would be faster/most fun B road machine?
The Yaris weighs less, but the Golf is a bit narrower.
Which has the most usable suspension travel?

I cancelled a circuit pack GR Yaris for an R, hope I made the right choice! I can't wait to see the reviews of the Yaris GR versus this.

I justified it as the golf should be more practical, roomier and refined as most of my driving is on the motorway / city. Oh and it was cheaper too.....
Having drove a GR, nothing touches them for smiles per miles, felt amazing. I’ll get one....one day

Good write up, was dreading Matt Bird would have been given the chance to do this, but you guys made the right choice PH.
However the Golf R I just do not think it cuts it as previous. The R logo looks cheap or useless compared to others dating back from the R32. Has the 0-60 got slower, I am sure the previous model was faster than 4.7 with DSG?

So people really care about a logo? And how can it be "useless"?However the Golf R I just do not think it cuts it as previous. The R logo looks cheap or useless compared to others dating back from the R32. Has the 0-60 got slower, I am sure the previous model was faster than 4.7 with DSG?
