Thread resurrection!

Not quite clear on this...

If I buy a car that was £40k+ when new, and thus incurs the additional rate until it's six years old, and I buy it at five and a half years old, will the taxman stiff me for the additional rate for the whole 12 months that I tax it for when I buy it, or just for half of that time as it'll reach its sixth birthday six months after I buy it?

I expect the DVLA would stick to the strict time line, which is 5 years. Would the difference between 6 months and 12 months additional VED affect your choice?

Not quite sure how to interpret that.

Not really, I was just curious.
