I think you need to get the plate off while the MOT is valid?

Not sure but I have seen it takes 4-6 weeks so I'll likely just leave it on when I scrap it

With the Orion nearing completion to use every day, I needed a shed to run until it was. The ML had to go, insurance was more than I wanted to pay and I yet again couldn't get on with it. I bought this today for £350, it's a PD130 sport estate with the tiptronic box, 23 days MOT left and a potentially valuable private plate I can maybe sell. Plan is to use it then scrap it when the MOT is out as scrap will more than pay for the car. I messaged within 50 seconds of the ad going up and already he had 20 other messages, I could get there first so he sold it to me. No idea how it drives, I just know it runs and moves. I'll post some pics when I collect it tomorrow
I wouldn't be so quick to scrap it - the PD130 estate is a rare beast. Looks like it has the PD150 alloys too. Could be worth quite a lot if it's in reasonable condition.

It's a factory sport, shame it's a tiptronic though. I am gonna take it for a pre MOT and see what they say. I will offer it on the MK4 owners club beforehand in case anyone there has a use for it, should be a good workhorse in the meantime though.

If/when you have the V5 back (in your name) you should be able to do it online instantly unless there is any period in last (I think) 5 years when car was not taxed or sorn’d

I think you can't sell or scrap the car for 4-6 weeks until the retention certificate arrives though. If the pre MOT shows it's gonna pass then I may just do that

Ive dipped back into the market for a shed as a filler awaiting my company car delayed until Autumn. My current car has just gone back. It was a lease and I wasnt prepared to pickup the major service, mot and tyres that it was soon to need. After fastidiously going through all the usual classifieds, different models(didnt really care what it was providing it was less than £1500, I was struggling with how mamy were rotters out there. Well I picked one up last week after coinciding with the PH shed of the week(saw the post after I had bought mine. For £1085 fsh, tyres in good nick and only 1 thing not working(heated seat) 108k miles. Got the train and drove 170miles back from norfolk to Hampshire. I forgot how much fun cars like these can be. Roof down for the summer and wondering whether I will offload it when time comes
Nice.

My sister drove my 9-3 Estate last week for the first time as she managed to lock her keys in her car so had to go and get the spare. She was actually surprised how nice it was to drive and how fun it was.

My wife still hates it though as something else breaks every time she drives it and the people at her work laugh at her as it only runs on 5 cylinders when it's cold!

Any love for the shed Vectra interior?

I kind of think it's ok, in a utilitarian/simple no fuss way perfect for "a do it all hack."

Dated by today's standards but it is not a too bad a place to spend my countless hours on the motorway, certainly less creaky than my SAAB 9-3 I had.

Drives spot on for £300. I've got a scrap offer of £465 which I'll take in a couple of weeks, i'm not sure if the box slips under load or if the tiptronic just kicks down even when I have a gear selected. It's an awful box that's for sure

I’ve got 2 Passat B5.5 PD130s, so basically the same. The manual averages 50mpg+, the tiptronic 40mpg. The tiptronic is smooth but constantly kicking down and slow to change up. As you say crap box

Hello,

It is liberating having a shed BUT as an only car I'm starting to get disenfranchised. We've had over 35 cars and most I've ever spent is £2100.

Removemycar and Cartakeback, one of them will give the highest quote.

170k, it's a Cat S that's been through 2 salvage auctions, it is vile inside too. For 2 weeks use it's perfect though, decided it's a van. Been using it to pull the Prion up and down the street while I work on it, I could see it being a great tow car.

Little update on the £600 26k mile Kia Cerato I purchased 2 years ago...

In that time I have spent the following...

Cambelt and service done £260.
Front pads, discs and 1 front caliper £150.
4x Michelin cross climates £200 after discount and selling a free karcher.

Wear and tear/ serviceable items basically.

It is a great car if a little sluggish being a 1.6.

Part of me wants to sell it and get something a little cooler, but I'd miss it.

Lol I paid 40 quid for 4 unknown branded tyres on steels. How many miles a year do you do?
