RE: 2022 Genesis GV60 | PH Review
Discussion
I quite like it.
It's a bit different to the usual brands and hopefully they'll be trying hard to get established. It goes alright. The range is on par. The styling doesn't over excite me but then non of them do in this segment.
Two issues for me. I wouldn't dream of paying 70 odd K for one and those wing mirror screens on the doors are the deal breaker. Absolutely stupid and if I'm spotting something so glaring obvious what else is wrong that I've missed. If you're going to stick two screens where they are why not cut out the middleman and just use mirrors. They're so pointlessly gadgets for gadgets sake they're embarrassing.

Personally i would chose something like this purely because its different, our car park is a sea of german and generic SUVS, all bland , gray and not a car you would walk away from and look back at.
And then sat in a colleagues brand new GLB, if an established brand is all about big screens and 243 million LED colours for the vents etc, its sad.

Let me rephrase that to the whole brand rather than this specific car. I just don't see why anyone would choose this over its well established rivals. If a company doesn't bring anything new, then why bring it at all?
Tesla was new, and it bought with it new ideas/new concepts.

Camera side mirrors are an optional extra at £1,240. It's a bit different to the usual brands and hopefully they'll be trying hard to get established. It goes alright. The range is on par. The styling doesn't over excite me but then non of them do in this segment.

They are NOT standard equipment.
OK, so that's that then. Glad we all agreed

PH to add Genesis to the list of Makes that we can pick

I understand PH is free, and that it needs to make money somehow, with paid articles, and providing media to the biggest markets (EV's, SUV's), I get all of that.
It's just changed so much from what it originally was.
I find myself actually interested in 5% of the content, where it used to be 95%.

It doesn't help that 50% of the articles these days are just thinly veiled promotion material for the classifieds either.I understand PH is free, and that it needs to make money somehow, with paid articles, and providing media to the biggest markets (EV's, SUV's), I get all of that.

Like it, but the Genesis name means nothing in the Uk, so would prefer the hyundai or Kia
I dont see it as a Taycan rival, no one spends £70k on a taycan, with all the 'must have options'
Looking though the Porsche options list I could live with the base model. I dont see it as a Taycan rival, no one spends £70k on a taycan, with all the 'must have options'

The styling doesn't match the rest of the Genesis range, and to my eyes looks less expensive than the EV6 or Ionic 5. I like the other Genesis models though. The upcoming electric versions of the (to my eyes great looking although I know that's not a common view) GV80 and GV90 saloons will be a better fit.

I am really failing to see any logic in what you are saying now. If you have no desire for this particular car that's fine but to question it's existence is a bit weird really.
Your premise appears to be that unless a company brings something entirely new to the table they just shouldn't bother at all? If that concept had any relevance in the real world supermarkets would only have two very small isles with no comparative items in them. But that's not the case and I can walk in and buy a multitude of what is the roughtly the same thing but at differing price points and with varying associated quality - be that perceived or creditable.
Are you just of the opinion that Tesla should be the only mass ev manufacturer as anybody that follows will not have brought anything new??
Two growth markets are SUV's and EV's so you probably need to ask yourself why a manufacturer wouldn't attempt to offer an EV SUV rather than ponder why they would.
Can I try? It doesn't need to exist because the Ionic 5 and EV6 already exist, in the same way that you don't really need a Leon or Octavia or A3 because there is already a Golf. Or that stupid Polo-SUV thing as there is already the Polo and the Taos. Maybe it makes sense from the companies point of view so as to amortise development costs across 3 brands but as a consumer with the GV60 in particular, it doesn't improve in any way on its 2 cheaper cousins.Your premise appears to be that unless a company brings something entirely new to the table they just shouldn't bother at all? Would that be a factual statement based on first person experience or merely supposition based on personal preference and information gained from literature? What would you say to those who prefer this car's aesthetics over it's two cousins, would that not be an improvement in itself before you even got to any potential hardware/build quality/customer experience differences?
The rest of your post only reinforces the original notion that it's existence can be justified simply because the market demands choice, at varying levels of obtainability, so it is provided. If this were not the case then there would be no Lexus, no Infinity, no Maybach and no Cupra etc etc and at the other end of the scale there would also be no need for budget offerings either. Pricing strategies are not a new thing. Choice is not a new thing. It's nothing more than that really and the question still remains; how many better current solutions could there be for tapping into a relatively new market (geographically) for a brand?
