Do you think you know of any rare performance editions of hatchbacks that others may have not heard before?

I'll start with...

The Mitsubishi Colt Cyborg.

The name has always stuck with me ever since it came out! 173 bhp and 0-60 in around 7 seconds.

Over to you!

Can safely say I didn’t know they did a 4WD version of the Cultus/Swift GTi. Quick read looks like Japan only. Nice.

The Ford Racing Puma was always the one that stood out to me.

Just had a look at the specs on the colt. In-line 4. McPherson struts. Also, 39 mpg average.

Seems like it has mitsubishis answer to the b16a. Stats look very similar. Should be a fun a little revver.

Smart Forfour Brabus. I think it was very similar to the Mitsubishi Colt CZT mechanically.

I think this was quite a well known car back in the 90’s/00’s

They also did a square earlier version but think it carried the name 4x4.

The GTR was easily the best looking hot hatch of the era.

Nice! Sure does remind me of the Nissan Pulsar GTiR.

Talking of Pulsars, the VZR N1 is pretty rare with only 500 made. 1.6L SR engine, normally aspirated, making 197 bhp at 7800rpm !

Perhaps epitomising Nissan's 90s ability to make anything except a profit.

Does the Toyota Aygo Crazy count as they only made 1 I believe, but quite a few motoring journalists got their hands on it.

200bhp with 240 lb ft but only weighing 1000 kg's. nuts

Depending on your vintage, you may prefer the bonnet bulge Mk5a/b.
Does the Escort GTi also count?
