RE: 2023 BMW XM | PH Review
Discussion
Not even going to comment on the looks as the real failure is failure for it to be a) quick b) ride even remotely well c) the weight!
Fundamentally, the weight and ride issue clearly are linked to using CLAR and the nonsense hybrid stuff, even on the shared platform like the Urus they managed something semi sensible ride wise and weight. The DBX is an oddity in that respect being on a dedicated platform and even keeps air chambers on the 707.
The XM is frankly, slow. It is not even in the 3 something 0 - 60. The standard dbx is nearly 0.5 second up on this with nearly 100 bhp less! Let alone the dbx 707 which is 1.2 seconds up.
Recombine that with the looks you are going to have to be a very dedicated person or get a substantial discount. Frankly, a lightly used dbx 550 (so non 707) is similar money to a new one of these. Add a bit more in and you can get a 707.

Well, that’s a bit of a wake up call on a Saturday morning…
I’d be genuinely concerned about parking this - anywhere else than in a covered garage - away from people with eyes… I can’t imagine it would draw much positivity? And that comes from a current M4 owner… (M4 not universally loved - I know - but this, sheesh…?)
The weight, the cost, the size, the gaudy-ness, I am a ‘live and let live’ kind of person - but this does challenge my principles on that.
Oh no - BMW news - on these forums has turned me…!
Near 3 ton, 25mpg, market stall on wheels…
Full order books you say? Uh… ok… am sure you are right.

Massive touch screens and cars that weight close to 300kg with enormous amounts of power. What could go wrong.
I’m literally wtf at the car industry with this sort of s

i think you mean 3000kg I’m literally wtf at the car industry with this sort of s

The car industry has worked out that if you supply less you can charge more and people will buy anything if there is less to choose from.....hence this rubbish !
If most people were to define an M car it would most likely be something along the lines of a car based on motorsport based technology for the road (and track as well now with the popularity of track days) so by extension most ordinary M cars are or should be like this (although some aren't!)
But then to do the first bespoke M car in 50 odd years, which you would think should be all of the motorsport tech above turned up to 10 plus good looks along the lines of a GT3/GT4 that put even an ordinary M car to shame, makes BMWs decision to do this totally baffling. They have truly lost the plot on this.

Unfortunately in most BMW models with the 'M' designation the 'M' now stands for marketing. But then to do the first bespoke M car in 50 odd years, which you would think should be all of the motorsport tech above turned up to 10 plus good looks along the lines of a GT3/GT4 that put even an ordinary M car to shame, makes BMWs decision to do this totally baffling.
