Still the nicest platform I've owned, albeit a 2.8QS - would've loved the hot V8. Not sure I understand the hatred towards the 20-inchers - if I recall this was the first car to be commercially offered with them. Not only do they suit the shape incredibly well, but ride quality isn't sacrificed either.

Obligatory pic of my pearl aqua metallic:

Lovely, here's my Aqua Blue S8 which had the 18" 'Avus' wheels from factory. I bought some 20" wheels to put on, which were okay and certainly transformed the ride and handling but soon switched back to the originals. Cars with 20" wheels from factory had uprated suspension arms as I discovered.

I sold my Aqua Blue D2 (which I still regret) and bought ... an Aqua Blue D3 S8 biglaugh

As mentioned already, any prospective owners (or any owners who aren't already) should get on the A8 Parts Forum website. A truly fantastic resource of information and knowledge. The gearbox is most certainly not 'chocolate' and is usually the default unfounded comment of a person who has never experienced this gearbox (rather like idiots saying that all Land Rovers break down). It's a really good box but just requires a service at certain mileage ranges -- completely against Audi's official recommendations. If we're at 120,000+ miles with no evidence of gearbox servicing by a ZF-approved place, it would make me a little uncomfortable. Put about £3,000 aside to do the work otherwise.

I would have liked to have seen the original wood trim in that advertised S8, the carbon doesn't suit it in my opinion. If I remember correctly, there might have been one or two very special cars with carbon specified from the factory via quattro GmbH, but this is unlikely to be one of them.
