My old 1989 Sierra Sapphire Cosworth is still going strong, seen a photo of it recently and it looks really well. All these years later afaik it lives within about 20 miles of me.

Sticks.

I googled the reg for a MG Midget I had in 86 and it's still going, minus the rubber bumpers. I'm surprised as it was so unreliable I got rid after 6 months.

Some surviving but several had really weird MOT histories after I sold them in perfect condition...eg:

This was an old man spec 2l petrol Laguna II in almond green...

Mileage unknown for this MOT and then 5 yrs of straight passes covering only 18,000 miles (must have finally been sold to the old man who should have had it in the first place). God knows who had it and what they did in the gap.

Others with different sized tyres on the same axle, almost all with cords showing etc. Loads with coil springs broken...how do you only find this out when you get the car MOT'd?!

Shouldn't care but it really pisses me off when a car that you've taken care off, whatever it is, is abused after you've sold it.

I've only owned 2 cars (prior to my current one obviously), an '03 reg MINI One and a '64 reg Alfa MiTo. The MINI amazingly is still going strong, with a clean MOT last November at a shade over 100k.

The Alfa surprisingly seems to be dead, last went through an MOT (and passed) on August of 2022 with only 100 miles more than I sold it with in February of the same year. Surprising as it was, as far as I was aware, perfectly solid mechanically when I sold it. Can only assume it ended up in a smash- shame, as it was a good car and a nice example when I sold it.

My old spitfire and esprit both survived but they both had nut and bolt rebuilds so should hope so. The dailys I ran virtually into the ground so not surprised they are gone.

My first car is still in the family. After using it for 18 months or so after passing my test, I relocated to the US, which happened to coincide with my younger sister turning 17, so I sold her the car and she used it for a while. Eventually she decided to upgrade, so my father took it on, expecting to keep it for a few months and then sell. However taking it on coincided with his retirement, and suddenly having a small runaround only suited him fine. They have a big Volvo for family stuff/longer trips, so the little Peugeot stayed. We've had it for 14 years now, our family has taken it from 25k to about 125k, and my father keeps threatening to give it back to me when it eventually dies. Cracking little car.

My wife's first car, a Pug 106 was sold on in 2018 after many mostly-faithful years of service, as the subframes were really only connected to the car in spirit, not so much in metalwork, and the complete lack of servicing meant that the slightest whiff of a fresh oil filter and the thing would likely have died from shock. After selling it for £500, the new owner put it through an MOT six months later where it unsurprisingly failed on a number of rust related issues. However surprisingly, he welded it up, obtained a fresh ticket and then advertised it for £400. I suggested to my wife that we could buy it back; we'd be £100 up and the car would be in better nick! She declined the idea, after that it never saw another MOT nor tax, so I assume it has long since been rebranded as Heinz. However, due to its sentimental value, before we sold it we retained its original DVLA-issue number plate, which has adorned all of her cars since.

Of my former cars:

Ford Escort 1.3LX - sold 2000 - still on DVLA system but not taxed since Jan '04, not MOT details, last V5 issued in '02, so likely scrapped but never declared given the length of time.
Renault 5 GTT - sold 2002 - still on DVLA system - declared SORN 2019, MOT expired '19, last V5 issued '18.
Pug 106 GTI - sold 2003 - still on DVLA system but not taxed since Oct '05, no MOT details, last V5 issued in '05 - again likely scrapped but never declared.
Caterham R300 Superlight - sold 2005 - no longer on DVLA system but i know it was sold by Caterham South a few months after they bought it back from me and was moved onto a private plate with the new owner.
Pug 306 1.8S Cabriolet - sold 2006 - still on DVLA system but not taxed since Mar '14, MOT expired August '14, last V5 issued '06 (when i sold it) - another one that must have been scrapped (stripped for the mods / engine conversion, etc) but never declared.
Renault Clio V6 255 - sold 2006 - no longer on DVLA system for same reasons as the Caterham - gained a private plate after i sold it.
S2 Escort RS Turbo - sold 2008 - no longer on DVLA system - i sold it to an enthusiast but a few years later i found that it ended up in the hands of some spoilt rich kid that trashed it, got sold by the father to fund a Golf VR6 for the same son, not seen since so either scrapped / parted out or moved onto a private plate.
Lotus Exige S 220 - sold 2009 - no longer on DVLA system. Was sold by Bell & Colvill a few weeks after they bought it back from me, was moved on to a private plate, but i know that a year later it was exported (potentially Holland).
Saxo VTS Mk2 - sold 2012 - no longer on DVLA system - i used it for a couple of years as a track car, then realised the body was hit by rust so stripped it and sold the shell as a spare. Wasn't declared SORN by the person who bought it off me for years but does now appear to have been scrapped as it no longer shows.

Most of my early cars have died, but one keeps on surprising me.

I bought an ex demo Smart Roadster Coupe in 2004. Sold in 2007. It is still on the road with 188k miles on the clock and not too bad an Mot history. HV54OZF.

All of mine dead/gone other than the cars I still own. I do tend to keep cars till they are a bit long in the tooth though so not too surprising.

The only car that is in limbo (SORN) if not fully gone is ‘my’ Fiat Uno Turbo ie, which was SORNed in 1998 so maybe it still lives on in some parallel garage universe somewhere.

Interestingly when I tried googling the reg up popped a pic of it in a bus depot in Manchester:

I thought this might be in my ownership as I took it on a skid pan course at a bus depot in Manchester, but it turns out it was a different bus depot. Also I wouldn’t have been seen dead with a Piccadilly Gold sticker in the back window, so I assume dates it to just before I bought it. Anyway, perhaps I will find out more when I google (or whatever) the number again in a couple of decades…

Oldest of mine still on the road is a 2009 Fiat Bravo 1.6 TDI on 160k miles.

The 06 Octavia I had before that got to 220k before failing an MOT on pretty much everything

My 1988 BMW 318i bought new, survives but is SORN and no MoT history. Sad because it had been a good one.

Owned 2004-2012, my 1993 Mitsi GTO twin turbo is still surviving and was up for sale on the GTO UK site recently.
I doubt any earlier cars survived long; all were rusting bar one MGB GT, but I can't remember the reg.

My 2007 BMW 123d I sold in 2014 passed an MOT last November on 132,566 miles.

The 2002 BMW 325ti Sport Compact I sold in 2018 passed an MOT last year on 133,552 miles.

My 2006 BMW 325i Touring I sold in 2019 passed an MOT last year on 161,538 miles.

Nothing earlier than that seems to have survived. frown

My old Impreza Turbo Terzo still lives on some 14 years after i sold it. ( R684 PRD )

One of the more recent owners seems to have modified it somewhat going from the pictures i've found online.
