That 599 doesn't seem silly money. The engine is bloody amazing in those.
I really like the engine in the 599 too, but I just can't get on with the way it looks though.

I like it (can’t afford it though), probably prefer the previous generation too.

All I can say is there is hope for my 2003 SL500!!!!
But seriously, as much as I do love my SL, it has its issues, ABC, SBC, water leaking into the boot......

I would rather put the money into a Ferrari 458, and keep £40K for repairs, or a 612...

Edited by Wynn Duffy on Saturday 6th July 08:53
Not sure where you are seeing a 458 for £45k, but if you can let me know, I'll be off to buy three right away ...
I'm guessing that he/she meant a 456. V12 and £45k all day long!

The SL is very low mileage and it's at Hexagon which sort of explains the price but a really lovely R230 SL 55 can be had for a fraction of the price and let's face it how often do you get the chance to experience the difference between 500bhp and 600bhp?
I'm sure the V12 sounds special but a 55Kompressor at full chat is a sound to cherish as well.

Yeah my flabber was well and truly gasted at that too. I've been looking at fast convertibles recently and would spend that sort of money at an absolute stretch, but not on that in a month of Sundays. At half the price I think I'd still be thinking 'Yeah nice V12 and all...but it's still a 20 year old Merc'. Maybe that's what they go for though, I dunno.
Given the SL shop has a tidy looking non-AMG SL600 for £27,500, almost £60k to go the AMG is 'a bit of a jump'!

I always love to see the rats’ nest under the bonnet of a V12 Jaguar!
There’s a strange choice of phrase used in the advert text - “…the current and first UK owner…” and in the bullet point summary they chose to write “one UK owner”. Should we infer there have been other owners overseas?

The Fying Spur is a alot of car for the money, assume the level of Bork is terrifying..
Why would you focus on the Bentley for Borkfactor? It’s done less miles than most of the others and is about £70k cheaper than the other modern cars listed. Buy it for £19,800 and keep the remaining £70k in the bank for a rainy day that may well never come.
Sure I've read almost any issue on a W12 needs the engine to come out as it's so tightly packaged.

My Ferrari engine’s been out 7 times. It’s just part of the cam belt service schedule. No biggie.

Watched a video on YouTube yesterday were an 06 SL65AMG was pulled out of a river.in Florida.

Due to barges & the river regularly been dredged it was horrendous to see due to silt etc it was estimated.at weighing 3 times the weight of the.car.

When Police run the registration tag it was reported.stolen 8 years ago.

Regarding which car I'd have has to be the DBS Aston Martin followed by the SL65 , Flying Spurr looks a bargain due to only 25,000 miles but it's not buying the car it's running.it on a less than 20 grand Bentley.

I'd have argued that the SL65 is way over-priced but the only other one (seemingly) available is a less presentable 43k miler at fifty five grand, so perhaps its not so bad.

I had a friend with a CL65 of the same vintage - you'd forgive any of the annoyances, borkies, and aging switch-gear for the engines ability to both sit in comfort and relative quietness at idle / cruising speed and instantaneously give the vehicles occupants a facelift.

Of the list, the AMG is my pick. Yes I'm wrong - no I don't mind.

Hexagon have another on sale, even fewer miles. £89995.

I prefer the silver with red interior though still.

Oh man. I didn't think I'd prefer one in a darker shade, but here we are.

Good list, but I'd prefer a 550 Maranello over any of them.

For a more modern Ferrari the FF seems to be coming into a pretty tasty price range.

Very rare in the UK. They were about £50k when I was looking at SL55s seven or eight years ago.

All great cars in their own way, but I'm not ready for an Auto barge which does rule most out for me.

So I'd still rather have a manual 550 Maranello than any of them, although the DBS might fit the bill. It just isn't a Ferrari though!

They are a car (like the 612) which looks much better to me on the road than in pics.

I’d still prefer a Testarossa, and spend my days scooting about in it with synthwave music on.

Or maybe this…

That 850 has been for sale for quite a while now I think.
