I like that - put some 270 or 300 km/h winter tyres on and get to the slopes very fast
Would want it without the gold accents though
Assuming you survived driving at that speed: when I drive at 120km/h on the motorway, people regularly pull out in front of me. Were I doing >twice that speed, I very much doubt I'd manage to avoid hitting them.

Also, unless those slopes are in Germany, you're likely to end up in the clink.

well, the slopes are in Austria but I need to get there from Munich - so quite a bit of unrestricted Autobahn between them and me. Germans tend to not just pull out in front of you (exceptions proof the rule I guess) - alas I rarely go quite that fast nowadays as it is just not worth it. It is fun for a brief moment when there are no other cars around, but with age came (a tiny bit of) wisdom. Just ordered my winter tyres (W rating, so 270 max).
That is a world of difference from Britain then. biggrin

I was around 22 when the first 3dr Cosworth came out and I was running a Sierra 2.8 XR4x4 with 150bhp.
To see a Sierra shoving out 204bhp was unbelievable at the time, especially for what it cost.
And yet when I bought a 3dr, it was more than fast enough, and yes there were no or few speed cameras and the density of traffic on the roads was less.
The parallels, despite the massive disparity between the Sierras and the M3 power outputs are apparent to me, and whilst I’m glad that we still have companies making insane machines like this rather than become just another hyper-Duracell powered white good, I can’t see how you would regularly deploy such power.
Or at least if you did, the law of diminishing returns would apply and you would get to use all that extra power for less time.
I remember when you could sit in the outside lane at 100mph on the motorway for ages(plus almost everyone seemed to be doing around 90mph anyway). Plus you'd also get opportunities to max your car right out should you wish as well. You have very little chance of doing that nowadays in comparison as you say.
Yup, my dad drove his ~100hp Peugeot 504 far faster than 99.9% of the cars I see on motorways nowadays.

Even in our Vauxhall Viva, he'd sit a steady 85 - must have been about 4000rpm!
I'd have thought in a 4 speed HB viva at 85mph you would have been spinning at around 4500rpm and on the point of going deaf!!;
I was too young to remember, but probably, yes. Can't have been that much louder than 100mph in a 4-speed 504 (and that I was old enough to remember).

855bhp?! No child nor dog wants to be carted around in such machinery. Utterly pointless. Stupidity springs to mind.
Completely agree. But sometimes you have to cart them, no matter how stupid or pointless they are.

Hats off to Manhart! I thought it was impossible to make a 2024 BMW look any worse but clearly I was wrong. Jesus Christ.

The fact it triggers people like you substantially adds to its appeal.
The irony (as someone else also said) is I actually quite like it Julian! That doesn't mean to say it's right and any sensible person would accept it's not suitable for the road. Somebody somewhere made mention of track days. How often do you see estates on tracks, unless it's a Volvo!
Tell me you have never owned a fast car, without telling me you have never owned a fast car?

Impreza, Legacy, S and RS Audi wagons, Golf R...plenty of them around on track days.

How is it not suitable for the road? Because it has 850bhp? Top spec Model S/Taycans/Eletre/etc seem to manage?

And what is the level of power that deems a car not suitable? 650bhp? The 550bhp my car has? 350bhp?

I think it might be a case of "I can't handle it so no one can".

Some posters were raving recently about the B7 RS4 that has 420 bhp on a very good day. I'm getting on a bit now and perhaps my balls have shrunk a bit, but 400ish bhp without all the nanny electronics seems sufficient to me.

My Impreza has 250bhp. That was sufficient.
My Exige had 220bhp. That was sufficient.

My wife's 1-series has 300bhp. That is more than sufficient.
My SVR has 550bhp. That is more than sufficient.

But cars aren't all about being sufficient, otherwise we'd be driving a BMW 320d or similar.

Some argue "more is better...."

On balance of all the cars ive driver on track and road, with up to 700 hp, the absolute sweet spot for me is NA engine with 400 hp, linear delivery and able to deploy for (short)periods of time on road, and slightly more on track.

I think this is why the E39 M5 is held in such high regard, while slow by all modern standards, it is still the most fun and best balanced of power, speed and comfort.

While I admire engineering, I am not sure I would want to tip the prodigious amounts of super unleaded into it, just to sit in a queue to get into Tescos (okay, maybe Waitrose). I imagine the service costs are freakishly large as well.

These sorts of HP levels are best saved for weekend toys IMHO

Some people don’t want separate weekend toys though. Why have the purchase/running costs of a separate toy that’s probably going to be 2 seater and less practical when you have a family and dog with you most of the time it just becomes an unused expense.
Or spend much less money modifying the one car that you use all the time.
It’s why the Urus is so popular, ‘I want a lambo, do I have £200k sitting in the garage used once a month for a couple hours on my own or a Urus I use everyday with the whole family’.

Thats exactly why I stopped running 2 cars. You spend most of your time feeling you're in a compromised car.

Ah, yes : too much power? There seems to be consensus about aesthetically pleasing design coupled with sufficient poke to provoke a sense of 'youthful enjoyment' when desired and circumstances allow. This offering may be monstrous to some (and that front end is hardly a work of art or aerodynamically competent), but clearly attractive to others and, the 855bhp is similarly a matter of taste / perception. I'd love one (minus some of the exterior glitz) and happily waft the family (and dog) along summer holiday roads, content in the knowledge that, in the appropriate circumstances - i.e. on my own, I could exercise as much of its potential as conditions, my own skills and nervous system would allow.

Yes please.
