Looking at what was available to us from 2000 - 2010 really does drive home what a load of utter tedious bks we have available now.
It makes me sad at how it has all turned out with the majority of cars now as well. I don't buy car magazines anymore, because most of them are just full of EVs now for example. I am very grateful to have lived through/experienced interesting cars though for sure. I pity the poor sods born now, because there just isn't hardly anything to look forward to in the world of cars anymore sadly.

Truth be told I think EVs are an improvement on modern performance ICE, aside from tedious concerns about range.

£14k for a near 100k French hatch back seems bonkers. When did they become so expensive?!
It was and still is regarded as on of the best hot hatches and FWD cars. Compare this price with Fords like RS Turbos, and it seems very reasonable.Objectively of course for same money a nice 4 year old Fiesta ST would make more sense to many, but the majority of these are likely to be weekend toys at this age rather than daily drivers and I think objectivity is perhaps less of a purchasing factor as a result.

You only have to look and see what is really going on in Europe and the USA to see how dire things are in the car world. As mentioned in a previous post I haven’t bought a car magazine for years as I’m not interested in anything new.
As for the UK car market It’s going to be interesting to see what the Government is going to f@ck up next. But to their credit they have stated that they only have our best interest at heart and we can trust them.
I really do think the late 90’s and early 2000’s were peak cars.
On the basis of treating it as a classic manual and Audis move into ‘supercar’ territory and to keep as an occasional use 4th or 5th car, R8 all day long as it handled better than the V10 anyway.
V10 moves into Galardo / hurricane arena and it in no way compares to them, maybe performance wise it does but not long term ownership, V10 R8 is trying to be something it is not whereas the V8 is a classic I feel, sure v10 manuals are popular but as they get older, the power becomes irrelevant tbh
V10 is trying hard to keep up
V8 has nothing to prove as everyone knows they are underpowered today, so you can just go out and enjoy a manual, quick, good handling car
They are an odd driving position tho

I’m sure to an enthusiast it’ll seem a relative bargain.

What a great bunch, all of those are hugely appealing.
Early 2000s was pretty great era. In just a two year period between 2002-2004 you could buy these brand new:
Aston Martin DB9
Aston Martin V8 Vantage
Bentley Continental GT
BMW M3 E46
BMW M5 E39
Ferrari 550
Ferrari Enzo
Lamborghini Murcielago
Lamborghini Gallardo
New MINI
Pagani Zonda
Porsche 911 997
Range Rover L322
VW Golf GTI mk5
All the best stuff!!
This, the late 90's I would say 98-04 was peak car, new stuff maybe faster, better equipped, safer but they are frigging boring to look at inside and out and all around dull, I don't want an auto hybrid, I understand we all will eventually have to but everything has just become bland, boring with a needless pursuit of horsepower and speed, I would much rather chuck an E46 M3 around than a modern Ferrari.Early 2000s was pretty great era. That era was one of the last when the public wanted a truly diverse set of cars with saloons, estates, hatches, city cars, MPVs, 4x4s all with their own followings and roles to play.Since then our collective tastes have steadily converged onto a common SUV shape of varying sizes and luxury levels.

I was thinking similar but the Trophy is a limited run car with special suspension & seats etc, which does make a difference compared to the 182 Cup/Sport - which I think won’t ever achieve the same premium the Trophy will. I think the Trophy makes the Porsche look good value

That is certainly a very bold claim I reckon! I don't see them that way, however I'm yet to drive a performance EV though in fairness. I have driven a few crappy EVs though.
I should clarify that I'm thinking of these 2+ ton hippo things with their identikit turbo powertrains strapped to a ZF8 that do a poor impression of an EV powertrain anyway, rather than the handful of actual sports/super cars that can still make an argument for ICE.The Hypno-Toad said:

The R8 looks great value to buy and run
Doesn’t it just? for the miles i'd put on one a year, its sorely tempting.

They're tempting at that price too, I keep eyeing up manual V8s as a hoon car you can really wring the neck of without things getting foolish. The little boy inside me would be annoyed that there was a faster one available, but I think I'm grown up enough to enjoy the V8 for it's advantages now for the miles i'd put on one a year, its sorely tempting.
